Title: Removing Mid box?
Post by: jp123 on 11 May 2011, 11:11
I have a 1.6 with the straight mid box, i need a new one but was wondering if it would be worth, removing it completely and just having the exhaust run straight through. Would doing this give any advantages? or disadvantages?

The noise increase was my main worry, i dont mind a little extra noise as its pretty quiet standard but i dont want it sounding like a tractor

If we're talking about a mk2 then you won't notice any extra noise. I ran a straight through centre pipe on my old 1.8 carb mk2, and it made no difference to the sound tbh. Its the over axle box that does most of the resonating.
