Title: Not another...
Post by: jobody on 10 May 2011, 19:06
....suspension thread.

I am getting these http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?a=i&k=s&p=13480001A

And I want to know what else I should get whilst I am at it. Bushes etc??. I am trying to work out how much it will cost in all see.

Me and a friend are going to do the work ourselves so thats free.

My current suspension is knackered and I am keen to improve anything I can whilst I am down there!

Cheers!

As above, Mk1 coilovers will not fit a Mk3

Also as above new top mounts are required, other than that you should be ok

some people would coat them too to preserve them longer, i believe clear undercoat is a popular choice, just on the threads etc.

Sh*t! Was going to order them, must be blinded by the cheaper price tag!

So these will be ok for mk3 16v?   http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?a=i&p=13280004I&part=VW-Golf-Mk3-Vento-2WD-Hatch-Cabrio-Weitec-Hicon-GT-Coilover-Kit

So top mounts eh, as I am splashing out on coilovers, are there decent top mounts I should get or are they much of a muchness?

Thanks guys.

Because they are much better quality than the eBay ones, that said i'm sure you can pick up a set with adjustable damping for less than that :undecided:

while you are down there how are your rear axle bushes holding up? do you get loud bangs from the back when you go over small bumps?

Iv never personally ran eBay ones as iv got koni's but for 400 plus quid I'd want at least more drop than that! But thats just me!

Front and rear top mounts are worth replacing, also coat the coilovers in waxoil to help save the threads.

I'm not after super low, just 40 mm lower than standard and i am after quality. You may think I am mad but I am restoring this car to it's original form and replacing the original suspension was going to be 340 through a cheap vw parts company so I figured I would go for good quality coilovers to get as good comfort and much better ride.

Thanks for all the other advice chaps. It is much appreciated. Gonna go deep on them!!

if I was younger and had less back problems I would jom it up! I know the investment will be justified tho!

In that case why not fit a set of Koni shocks with Eibach springs.

That could be an option. Could you point me in the right direction for mk3 ones?

Thanks!
