Title: Dump valve performance
Post by: Flipmode on 27 March 2005, 19:30
Hey guys.

subject to the recent threads regarding dump valves over the last week or so, can anyone tell me whether the forge motorsport DV006 piston style valve would actually reduce performance on a standard non-chipped turbo when compared to the stock diaphragm unit?? need to replace mine soon and don't know which to go for.   :undecided:

many thanks

I'm sure someone will correct me but i can't see how it would reduce performance :undecided:

thanks, that was the answer i was looking for !!

i'm a total novice under the hood but thought that the car might need to produce more turbo pressure to shift the piston in the forge dv006 that it would to shift the lighter diaphragm in the stock unit....maybe that would create more lag/be less responsive for 150bhp car?? anyway, sure u guys know lot more than me about this stuff

thanks for the knowledge !

piston type valves react slightly slower than diaphragm ones.. but you're talking milliseconds, i've tried both and didn't notice any difference

I havent done any mods to my 1.8T, which I got today
So would it make any difference at all if I put a forge diverter valve on?
would I get any performance increase, or would I be bestter off waitinf until I eventually get it chipped?

I was told to go for the 007 as it's slightly smaller than the 006, but is practically the same in function.

change your air filter if you want a flutter when you let off :D

get the correct spring for your forge dump valve as a strong spring will not close and you will lose boost .they are only cheap anyhow

I got one at inter 05 and it makes the car more responsive on the accelerator.

They are supplied with the green spring which is the softest option anyway, its both fine for stock and chipped cars.

How about a Forge Optimus DV?
Its an uprated Diaphragm Diverter Valve with an adjustable top so no need to change springs, just twist to make it harder or softer.
So you get the best of all the worlds, fast, strong and adjustable.

I have a polished chrome one here doing nothing, used for 1 weeks testing and now for sale if anybody is interested.
