Title: Just a quickie!! Leon Cupra?!
Post by: sveed1.8T on 10 May 2011, 09:00
My mates' Nissan Almeria Gti died on him, so I insured him on my second car and he is currently cruising round in my mapped 1.8T Golf, and absolutely loving it. So much so, that he is considering going VAG, which I personally think is a sensible decision, as I'm on my fourth Golf now!

Some of you on here might say "sell him your 1.8T" but I don't fancy it, as I'd have to sell at mates rates and then if there any issues with the car, it could get awkward. :undecided:

He is currently looking at 2002/2003 LCR's, which I know are more powerful than a (stage 1) mapped 1.8T golf, but what benefits are there, for him, to have a LCR over a Golf 1.8T (which he has been considering)?

Just want to be able to give him sone sound advice really, as the VAG scene is completely new to him! Any issues with the LCR? Cheers

They have sharper handling as standard out of the box due to uprated bushes and being sat lower too (I think)

Suffer pretty much the same problems as a MK4 because under the skin it is a Mk4

Remap a BAM engine LCR and you're looking at 250bhp +

Awesome cars! Pulls like a train and looks cool too. Think you get brembo's too?

Was going to get one in the future but the way fuel prices are going I don't think so

Tbh I am not finding the Octavia that bad on fuel, Leon would be lighter so should be better.

But at 260bhp you would have to use all of that power  driven sensibly they are okay I suppose...

Cheers for the input guys! What sort of price should he be looking at, bearing in mind all the extras it has over the golf?

If he gets a cupra R and not just a 1.8t cupra.. They are great different bumpers.. Brembo front brakes with 323mm discs.. Highly mappable and 250+ bhp is easy on a tuned stage one.. My Leon was better handling than the golf and sat slightly lower which was nice..

Down sides.. A lot of plastic on the inside and is not a pleasant place to sit if you drive a lot and long distances.. As said suffers a lot of the golf issues.. Main common fault is the hazard switch goes only £25 to replace but very annoying..

Also find your nearest dealer my nearest one was 45 mins away which was a pain lol

Hope this helps

i was gonna say exactly that, the dash and interior just doesnt feel as plush as a vw, in the same way that audi shows up vw (in my opinion) other than that they are awesome!

The interior looks the same as an Audi A3 (8L). I like it, but each to their own I suppose

they are3 nice dont get me wrong but its the 5 door thing i would rather have a nice looking 3 dr golf with stage 1 lol
plus stage 2 on a golf aint far away from leon power and with the ko4-001 you got the same power plus looking better in my eyes
theres a standard leon cupra r that use to be at my work place and he was always bragging about it but at the end of the day its a car and get what you like

cheers

the cupra r has the BAM engine, 225 standard, the best 1.8t engine that vw produced

lcr 2003 engine code (amk) 210bhp standard lcr (bam)225bhp both codes map to the same bhp. interior is nice imo black headliner sunvisor's etc, black recaro's on some models, great looking alloys with big brembo's as standard. great looking car, but i prefer the look of the cupra.

YES

or

S3

that's what id have if i didn't rush into getting my golf

I was in this train of thought but i have now decided to go LCR as you can get mor efor your money with one.

I know the dash isnt the best but i will be looking out of the windscreen not at the dash so isnt too much of a problem to me. Hopefully getting mine next month

I have recently owned a 54 Plate LCR, Had done 70k, Paid £5000 for it, Had it stage one mapped, Forge Silicone Boost hoses & Neuspeed induction kit.

The performance was awesome, Approx 275 BHP, Handling was alot better than the Golf & fely more Planted.

There are quite a few differences throughout the range from the 1.8t AUQ engine to the 210 AMK & Finally the 225 BAM Engine.

The 225 had teardrop wing mirrors (210 ones are same as a mk4 Golf,)
The 225 Had the better steering wheel with Red centralising point at the top of the wheel.
The 225 a Single slot CD Player but the 210 had a cassete player with 6 disc changer in Glovebox
