No, not to look like some business class "I'm so much better then you" Audi driving tosser but for indicators.
Looking at stuff like this. (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-60cm-ORANGE-ULTRA-THIN-Audi-R8-led-strip-side-lights-/330456020959?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cf0b6b7df)
Because people keep shouting at me on roundabouts. :lipsrsealed:
But I'm hoping they will go in the headlights, not be noticable but was just thinking when the headlights are on gonna be visible or not?
For the die hard legal fans, don't worry I bodged some indicators into the grill. Looks fwank but it does the job for now.
-
Youv'e just made me think about the fact ive deleted my side repeaters and I never thought about people on roundabouts
Best brush up on my arm signals
I have no usefull info on the lights mind......sorry
-
Your car should fail it's MOT without side repeaters unless obviously you know the tester doing it?
-
Don't use LEDs you chav.

Just thinking the same, they are a legal requirement as I know the same question was asked in the mk2 section.
-
There was a thread on vwvortex where a guy put LEDs in the outer corners of his headlights to act as indicators. There should be some space there for a vertical line of LEDs. His were pretty bright when flashing but it was also America where you can get away with anything
-
don't use aftermarket led's - they look very chavvy
if you want proper aftermarket DRL's then you should retrofit the Hella options available for the mk3...
this is they

lights5 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/guyfrankland/2763832208/) by Guy Frankland (http://www.flickr.com/people/guyfrankland/), on Flickr
they are where the fogs are... and only come on when the lights aren't on.. fully legal and hunky dory.. the only problem comes when old dudes in volvos flash you repeatedly because 'you have got your fogs on'

I think you missed the point Guy, Bellend needs indicators as he's smoothed his front bumper, and I'm guessing as he has a vento front end conversion he's not up for mk4 style lights. The led strips would be for indicators

oh :lipsrsealed:
-
Indicators on your wing mirrors maybe?
-
Can you not just tuck a little orange bulb into the headlight?
-
Indicators on your wing mirrors maybe?
They'd be classed as the side repeaters though, wing mirror indicators are fine if you decide to delete the standard wing located indicators but will not suffice for the front bumpers ones as well. Id say modified headlights is definitely the way to go with this.
-
I missed the point :embarassed: thought he only needed side repeaters :(
Its definitly not possible to fab up a small section in the light for the bulb?
If not i can't really see any other options to LED strips ?
-
Actually... Considering the lens isn't clear a strip may not look too bad.
-
I don't think it'd be too difficult to drill a hole and dremel some slots in one of the headlight chambers and insert an indicator bulb holder.
-
Cheers guys. Ahead of you with the bulb holders, I did it on my old headlights but they weren't bright plus an MOT fail because the bulb or reflector wasn't clear enough. So was thinking LEDs.
As Jack said it's not too clear so think I could get away with some very bright, decent LED strip and if it looks gash just tint it to blend in.
Cheers for the views though, reckon it would be visible if I put it along the bottom and round the side of the reflector, behind the glass?
Thanks.
-
If you were to uprate the lighting loom to start with then stick some decent quality chrome look / orange flashing bulbs in then surely they'd be bright enough for indicators?

My brothers my mot tester
However if i get pulled more than once i will add something discrete in the wing mirrors that you cant see unless it's flashing.
Luvin your front bumper now Bellend.Good work!

Would be best/coolest/most oem/least chavvy way of doing it!
-
It's how im planning on doing it anyway.

You and Josh could help smooth my bumper too if you fancy it, then we could be the Kent smooth crew.
-
I'm not being funny but....
I can see the bulb in the headlight chamber working during the day, but surely at night it will be a problem? Average headlight bulb is 55w, the brightest indicator is still only 21w.
It would be really difficult to tell if you are indicating a night, esp as I'm guessing the light would follow the reflector pattern of the headlight, so truckers might be a big problem.
Last thing we would want is Bellend getting killed isn't it?
People who have done the smooth bumper/vento front before have put ultra bright LED strips in the outer corners of the headlight, and they look subtle, couldn't see them unless your looking for them.
At least in this position they would be more visible at night.
Alternatively, if you could find a way to dim the headlight when indicating like Audi's do their running lights, that would look pretty sweet!

Yeah but they are vile.
Cheers for the comments on the bumper guys. Gonna need a respray thanks to a "mate" driving my car in a carpark without my permission straight into another mates car.
But will get it sorted.
Gonna try bright LED's in the headlgihts, outside the reflector along the side. Not gonna use the same reflector as the headlights!
-
Hope he's not your mate any more!
-
Not particularly, no but not just for this.
Ah well.
-
I loaned a car to a mate of mine overnight about a year ago, he dropped it on my drive at about 4:30am, I had to go to work at 5:00am so I just hopped in without checking it over, I was pulled over on the way in to work and was asked where my number plates were.
It didn't take a lot of searching to find a dual carriageway sign from Brighton in the boot with the seats folded down either.
Wasn't happy!

Can't stand it when people don't respect your stuff.
LEDs ordered.
-
I'm interested in seeing what these look like.
-
What kind of leds have you gone for man, are they kinda Audi-esque?
-

Yep.
They are 2mm wide and a really good idea as they shine on the side of the flexi bit instead of the face, so perfect for the job.

Hopefully you won't be able to.
-
How are they fixed into place, do you have to bond them in? Hot glue gun?
-
They have adhesive backing. Will see where I want them, then expoxy them in then carefully brush primer and black paint over. Obviously avoiding the LEDs.
