Title: air filter for 1.8T gti... induction kit or panel filter ??
Post by: G0LF_GT1_TURB0 on 08 May 2011, 23:34
looking at gettin the car remaped in very near future (about a month or so) and was wondering wether it would be better to get a cold air fed induction kit or keep the air box and get myself a good panel filter?

any experiences with these?

been looking at this induction kit as it seems to place the filter out the way of the hot engine bay and took it into the wheel arch:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230584311222&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3211wt_1199

and these type of panel filters:

any help would be great as i cant decide what to get!  :undecided:

Most people on here will say panel filter with the bigger DSG intake, or if you want the 'woosh' sound, then get the induction kit.

I have the induction you posted from ebay and its a nice sound

Got some 76mm Neoprene Cold Air Feed Ducting Hose and made my own enlarged air feed to my standard air box. Just about squeeze it through the gaps to the front wing, you can also band the mouth into the perfect fitting part into the airbox

Bargain

I put a Pipercross in my 1.8t last week and noticed a little more throttle response. :)

I was considering getting the DSG R32 intake, but if I can save a few ££ and get a silicone hose to do the same job will that work ok?

any disadvantages?

Ive just put one in my Tdi 130 and have better acceleration at top end but nothing changes down low.
I looked at the DSG intake but didnt want to spend the money so the cheapo mod is £13 odd quid.
Same kinda job the only differene is you need to cut a small bit off the casing away that sits behind the light. I was worried about doing this but infact when i took it apart i actually broke the bit off anyway lol. Youll see it if you take it apart. The hose i posted above can be squidged to fit so just play about. The hose ends up running down to where the Carbonio *sp* induction kits end up. Ive cut mine down so it end just below the light so water doesnt get sucked up

I bought one of the ebay filters shown in the link - anyone got fitting instructions, as the piep doesn't quite sit into place.
The rubber (double thread ended) piece will not bolt in - am i using the wrong hole to align. Any closer and it will hit a relay(???) on the inner wing
