Title: Not a good start!!!! Enginemanagement????
Post by: rob249 on 07 May 2011, 16:01
Ok after buying the golf mk4 2.0 gti (8v), 2000 reg at 10am, a warning light has already appeared on the dash. According to the manual i thinks its the exhaust emmision warning lam, excepct without the lightening bolt through it, but to me it looks like ENGINE MANAGEMENT light on any other vehichle that ive owned.

why would this be? it could be anything couldnt it???

Could someone try and clear this for me please (its due a service aswell and car notifies me every time i start it up)

1. Is the the water supposed to be orange?? i think its the antifreeze colour maybe. Its in a big round ball type thing on the left side of engine bay
2. when starting up the starting motor makes a loud squeal sometimes, why woudl this be?

Im clueless on golfs to be honest. DOnt wanna spend a fortune but know i need:

1.cambelt
2.water pump
3.fan belt
4.oil
5.filter
6.plugs

as for the engine management light  bud you need to get a code reader on it  to see what fault codes it shows this will pin point the fault

the round ball = the expansion bottle  for the coolant and sounds to me that it allready has summer coolant in ! you can check this with a cheap antifreeze tester ! or dip your finger in see if it tastes sweet !

the sqeal is the starter moter sticking on due to dirt and old grease  ! there is a guide on here for stripping it down to clean  i started  it ages ago !

Ye p0001 is not there, its on obdII scanner i think, but cant find what exactly ''P0001 Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit/Open'' means for anything, some websites state code is a fault or fake

Im from Swansea in Wales, and scanned it with one of the scanners in the link below

http://www.oursbiz.com/Company/210220/U480_Can_Obdii_Eobdii_Memo_Scanner.aspx

Showed up as 1 fault, and then gave the code 01, when i checked the manual, the only 01 code was p0001
