Title: TPMS - Retro-Install - final stages - HELP!
Post by: Buck on 07 May 2011, 11:28
Hi guys

finally got round to installing the above (loom provided by SteveP)

I have the yellow wire through the bulkhead grommet and now need to fasten the pin into the ABS controller behind the battery - which I have removed after taking the battery out - so far so good.

In the instructions it says to unlock the connector using a screwdriver - I have done this but then what?

How do I gain access to the rear of the connector block to insert the new cable into 35 pin? or am I missing something?

Car is currently "disabled" whilst I work this out so any help appreciated!

Thanks

You need to unclip the backshell from the connector to enable you to push the wire in from that side..

It's this bit where I've got myself stuck!

I've unlcoked the connector but without breaking the housing what do I do to get access?

Thanks Mike

I can see a hole for the wire with a rubber bung/plug in it - just remove this? then slide the wire through?

Yes, you can use a cocktail stick or something like that to push it out from the other side.

Thanks Mike

Wire in, connector back on etc. Just to code now when I get access to VCDS.

Most impressed Adrian.
How long did it take you to complete this intricate needlework?

Well, as I was being careful to follow Steve's guide and not having done much of this before I'd say 45 minutes in total and that included removing/replacing all the trim and the battery

Cocktail stick worked for me.

One issue I did have was that I had some fun errors on the display and the steering kept trying to force me off the road. A simple restart fixed the issue, but I assume that the ABS doesn't like being disconnected and needs to remind itself of a few things.

It will do that if you disconnect the battery

I have also recently installed the wiring loom from steve and thanks to his excellent guide it went without a hitch, the most difficult part was passing the wire through the bulkhead.A worthwhile mod, everything works like a dream.
