I ordered a GTD DSG Goif on 30 Sept 2010. I have now received a CONFIRMED build date of 4 July 2010 (BW 27), this being a further 4 week delay.
Can anyone understand such a delay for a Golf, Is it worth waiting or time to pull the plug?
-
While it's a pain, think about the residuals
And the MPG (when it arrives)

Sorry date should read JULY 2011. Well its certain to be a MY 2012 if that makes any difference.

4 Door GTD , read my sig

Its a debatable thiing do you wait even longer it depends how desperate you are? Did you order any additional options considering its an 8 month wait? At least you should have their courtesy car if you don't have a car.

It's only a Golf. Tell them to get stuffed and go buy something else.
Only when loads of people do this will the price of VWs come down - that's my logic anyway!!!!
-
I would not fret too much by the delay. Deisel fuel will still be available.
-
I waited just as long. As the old saying goes 'all good good things come to those that wait'
still really like mine...stick with it...however annoying the wait..

I like your logic Andy. I'd work along the same lines myself. The trouble is, I think, that there are too many people with more money than sense. Another thing along the same lines is that people who have a bit of wedge are downsizing from bigger cars and thus are buying the more high end hatchbacks. This in turn means that, within reason, the German car makers can charge more or less what they please, with the promise of an exclusive product.
I'd like to say that if I was in the position of buying a new car right now I'd give the Golf a miss. Unfortunately everything else in the same size and price bracket holds absolutely no appeal to me (apart from a Leon maybe) so I'd still end up visiting a VW showroom. Buggered if I'd wait for a new one though with the amount of very low mileage used ones about.

I'm with you on this. I would buy a nearly new one evrytime. Fcuk the waiting times.

Thanks for your views folks. Frustrating as it is I cant see any other vehicle at the moment that appeals and may not be happy with a second hand one.
Ill stick with it.

But you can pay more for a top of the range Astra TDI than a golf. So the price is not that high.

I could not agree more with this take on it. I'm really struggling with the wait time for what is basically a diesel golf, but I have never had any patience to speak of....ever. I've to go back into the dealer to 'apply' for a loan car at week 14 to see if I'm eligible come week 16. Still no confirmation that the order has been accepted by VW never mind a build date. I'm seriously giving consideration to cancelling and just going out and buying a near new GTD as there are quite a few available out there. Although I'll stick it out until I get an update, and if that is as expected to be months away then time to start looking elsewhere.

If you keep looking there will be a used one on offer that ticks all your boxes and will be yours within a week and save a few £££s

You wouldn't pay anywhere near retail price for a Vauxhall though Geoff, the £££s would come rolling off the asking price once you started playing hard ball with the GM dealers.
VW dealers will just wave you a fond farewell these days rather than knock a few grand off. Can't blame them if they know they can sell more than they make, just so long as they accept that when times are a little harder for them the shoe will be on the other foot.
F** 'em. Buy used, and then not without a fight. Power to the People!

But if you buy from a broker new its often thousands cheaper than used.

So long as you have 9 months of your life spare. I think VW must actually be giving birth to the bloody things. Sodded if I would wait, the design will be out of date by the time your numberplate has been screwed on.
Modern western society is geared up nowadays so that everything only has a 5 minute shelf life, stuff if rushed into production and is old hat by the time it's a year old. Look how many features the mk6 has had change in less than 18 months already.
The mk3 had minimal changes in 6 years, apart from junking the sh!tty fuel injection system on early 2.0 8v's.
-
I was so lucky and waited exactly 3 months. Mind you, premature births are beset with problems and Wolfgang eventually needed a new bottom. I think he might have been a badly executed delivery. He's had plastic surgery and his rump is now all aglow.
My nephew's car is ready for collection today. He had to wait 9 months and it ended up as a C section. It came out blue (Shadow Blue) and needed resuscitation.
I could never wait that long as at my ripe age time is of the essence. It is pointless delivering a car to a dead body unless VW has some covert plan for this. But then we should all be ordering black cars to speed up the process!
-
I ordered a GTD in April 11 and it is scheduled for a build week 25 which is 2 weeks earlier than yours?? How can this be? Maybe it's the extras you've had? I haven't had DSG so can only assume that's what is holding things up?
And i disagree with people saying get a used one. My new one works out cheaper than the 6-12 month old ones that are currenty available. With only a 12 - 14 week wait it's definitely woth it for me.
-
I'm surprised too I was told DSG then engine, then some air intake problem. I think there maybe a dealer allocation issue as well but this was not mentioned.
Has your build date been confirmed yet?
-
It was supposed to be week 29 but has been brought forward to 25. Not sure if that's a definite though
-
I ordered a GTD on March 9th and I've been told build week 22, so I'd expect to have delivery by early-mid June, all going well. I can't understand how a car that was ordered in October is still in the queue.
-
i waited a whole 2 wks for mine

It comes down to a clueless dealership that's why

I could have got my car in 3 weeks max as it was a cancelled order. However, it had a poverty spec and because I introduced some extras, I had to wait exactly 3 months. Considering Christmas and New Year were part of this period, I felt a 3 month was reasonable.
-
Our Fleet Management team are now quoting 12 month wait on all VAG factory orders, in particular all Diesels and DSG's (this was on friday) I have cancelled the GTD i ordered in November as they can give me no definite build date and they have found me a a cancelled GTI.
-
I got mine within 12 weeks, and a few bits added, belive its also a week extra to get it accross the Irish sea.
Dealer was good and kept me updated every 2 weeks, defo worth the wait!

Hi Damian,
I see you're in Kildare, another Irish man here, I'm on week 9 of my wait for my GTD! Hopefully not too much longer... What extras did you add? I've gone for 18's, xenons, iPod and bluetooth.
Stick a few pics up!
-
Just stuck one up... went for Carbon Grey, rude not too!
Had Phone Kit, Alarm, Luggage thing, and Ipod lead (that doesnt work very well!) My experience with all the upgrades on my last one (GT 2.0 TDi) was I never got a penny more for it when I chopped it in, so never went OTT this time.
It's worth the wait, all those 320D drivers over here dont like it :-)
-
The best update you can add to a Golf is the Flat Tyre Indicator £35 its worth its weight in gold.
-

Standard fit here in Ireland oddly enough! We get a few add-on's here as standard that are optional for you guys - such as the TPMS, folding door mirrors, cruise control. But then we miss out on climate control and one or two other bits.
-
Well folding door mirrors and cruise control have been standard on Seats for years. You have to pay extra for everything with VW its getting the same as BMW.
-
Keith you quote "Flat Tyre Indicator £35" Why you say that? Does it quote the actual psi or does it just tell you you have a flat when your car's rumbling along with masses of black smoke in the rear view mirror?
May still add it to my order.

I think it's linked to the ABS sensor and detects if there's been a significant change in the rolling circumference of the wheel... if it detects a problem, it'll beep and flash a warning on the dash. It doesn't monitor the PSI or anything like that. I've had it go off a few times in my GTI, usually after I've gotten new tyres fitted or after a service!

Thats the standard Flat Tyre Indicator here (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-gti-vi/configure/600/optional-extras/safety/). You can't have the full TPMS as an option on the GTD not that I need it after seeing the indirect ABS version working. I have one tyre that looses 3-4psi every 3-4 weeks. When the light comes on with the bleep I check the pressures all round and there is one thats dropped while the others (not all) may have only dropped 0.5psi. I pump it up to 36psi turn the ignition on and press the Set button in the glovebox then we are ok for another 3-4 weeks.
No there is no black smoke out of mine.
-

Not on the Seat I'm sat on..........
No there is no black smoke out of mine.
Impossible, all diesels are the work of the devil and always blow out black smoke everywhere they go when they arn't blocking DPF's up and in turn having their warranty's voided because they've been remapped
Yes folks it's one of those days
-

Well my both of my friends at work witrh 2005 Seat Leons 1.9 TDI both have them as standard fitment so they have been fitted for years.

Thats bull Doc they don't push out black smoke unless there is something wrong with them. Unless its only happens in your cases because your remapping them?
-
I only saw black smoke out the back as my tyre was being chewed on the blow out, I may have been the wrong side of 70....and was struggling with non-existent gaps in traffic to get over. I should add I do a lot of foreign driving, ahem!
My current 134k Mile Audi A4 1.9tdi 130+ GMBH model doesn't smoke at all, not remapped and uses all manor of fuels from supermarkets, BP and posh numbers. Somewhat loathed to get rid really, but the gf says I need something faster.
I said I was fast in bed, but that didn't help my argument. So rule is, when your gf says you need a faster car, don't argue!
Just smile and wave as you head off the showrooms

Have you ever laughed at a joke Keith?
-
Yes but sometimes its hard to differentiate as many a true word it said in jest. Top Gear say that about diesels, the devils fluid but as the forum title says and sarcasm since '02.
-
Diesels do push out black smoke and there is nothing wrong with this.
Would white or grey smoke be preferable? Doc was not joking.

White or grey is just as bad.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner...
What deliver time have you been given for your car?
Just of the Phone from the Stealer..
No Build week yet, The Order is amongst a list the dealer has already. Mine was a modified pre-existing dealer order. Still waiting for a "confirmed Order" from VW, no sign of a commission number or build week as yet.
I'm sure that means it's sat waiting an order allocation if ever there was one, but I could be wrong. When I said I wanted it for the 61 plate in September the salesman looked at me funny and said it would be with them sooner. And depending on the time difference may have to hand the keys over before. (Could be the victim of sales speak) as I did go looking for a garage who would agree they had GTD allocation left. They will say anything if they don;t have to write it down to secure an order this race of sales-persons. (Bloody hell I'm being PC on a Friday),
I need a FCUKing beer.
-
My dealer called me today, my GTD is going into production next week (a week earlier than originally allocated). Ordered 10 weeks ago.

They should definitely have a commission number at this stage.

Yeah, looks like I might miss out on the week 22 changes alright. Would have liked the rear LED numberplate bulbs, other than that I'm not fussed. A trip to Wolfsburg would indeed be cool!

You could always drop her off at some relations for a few days and take me instead. I promise not to moan at your directions or driving and unlike the wife will happily sleep on the couch instead of hogging three quarters of the bed.
I've always wanted to visit Wolfsburg but there's no way my Missus would go.

Maybe we sould have organized something on here some time ago for next week: Quick whizz over to Wolfsburg, couple of days there and then down to Worthersee to take in the sights and check out the ED35 in the flesh.....

I felt a little sorry for the last guy, "So Hanz what do you do to make a living" "I put rubber bungs in the floor of VW golfs, but the real excitement comes from none standard cars were I have to insert non standard rubber bungs" poor bugger.
-
I'm now 10 weeks from order and not a clue about when my car will be here. Dealer the last time I was in 2-3 weeks ago had no information at all, and I feel like I'm putting folk out when I dare ask the question. Sales guy I'm dealing with is a genuine guy (sold the wife her golf at the start of the year), but I surely would have had some indication by now about proposed build week or even order acceptance. Sales manager said "they sometimes just turn up"
So I'm heading in to see them tomorrow to see what the score is with one eye on cancelling and just getting myself a near new preowned one if there is no information two and a half months after ordering. Plenty of GTD's on autotrader at the moment, even if they are in deepest England.
Am I being unreasonable? I don't want to be hanging on with no info until it turns up, sometime in the future.
-
Your dealer has an online ordering system that will give you the status.
It will also show cars on allocation to all Dealers and if they are sold or stock and what spec.
Poor service in this climate is shocking, when will they learn!
-
Email VW UK direct with your commission number and ask for the position of your order.
-
or you can just ring them on 0800711811 and they will give you the status. You just need the commission number from your dealer.
-
I would really be up for tripping off to Wolfsburg and then Worthersee.
But I cannot drive there as my shoulder might give way and I'll subsequently need a broad shoulder to cry on.

Seems very poor customer service if you ask me. Mine was ordered at the end of April and i have a build week of week 25 so should be ready early to Mid July. I will prob wait though to get the new reg in Sept. I have regular updates from the dealer.

Dealers says no info on system apart from order form. They called VW who say all info removed due to build spec update changeover. It should be back on system after the weekend.

Was out and about today and dropped into a VW dealer in Edinburgh for a look as I knew they had 2 used GTD's. I also asked about lead times for new ones and they are looking at approx 8 months due to allocation restrictions. They are not able to order until their next allocation which is in October at present, where he said they would get it approx 8 weeks after that, but until allocation time Vw are not interested.
Just wondering if thats what holding my dealer up
-
My car is now built and "awaiting Shipment"
I'm thinking it will surely now only take a couple of weeks to get to the dealers, but the dealer says it could take 4-5 weeks... grrrrrrrr! Said something about there being only 2 ships per month and if mine misses one, then its waiting for the next one. I hope he was being overly pessimistic!
-
Good result. Let us know when it arrives.
-
Joe, boats every Wed and Friday, you will have it no later than next week i'd say, had mine 5 days after build completed.

Wow, that's pretty good! I'd be pleasantly surprised if I got it that quick.
This very useful thread here (http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4016) seems to indicate that Ireland only gets 2-3 shipments per month at most! I can't imagine that a small market like Ireland would be getting ship-loads every few days? This would kinda confirm what my dealer told me (although I'd take whatever the dealer tells me with a large dose of salt!)
-
They use the France/Rosslaire boat, one loader at a time, VW is Irelands second biggest seller by volume I hope they can sell more than one loader full a month, (im sure they only fit about 8 cars on them!)
Fingers crossed for you anyway.

Thanks Damion... i'm on the final hurdle anyway, it's been a long wait, 12 weeks so far - what's another 2 or 3!
-
Thats not long!!! I am waiiting 35 weeks and my GTD is not due to be built until the start of JULY so you pretty lucky
-
At what point, if any, can you say to your dealer, actually, your $%£% give me my deposit back, as a VW dealer, you cannot deliver, you are just Used Car Salesman....because that's the only thing you sell!
35 WEEKS, I'm only 3 weeks in and no news of the order being confirmed, I'm going to be itching by Week 35.
-
35 weeks, that's just nuts lads, totally unacceptable to me at least.
Mr_F, I remember calling into my dealer at around week 3, and at that stage it was penciled in for a week 20 build. It was eventually built on week 21 (last week). Of course, it hadn't occurred to me until yesterday that there can be a fair wait between build week and delivery week... grrrrr!
-

I couldn't agree more, tell them to stuff it.
-
I've ordered a new GTD which my dealer managed to grab a week 31 build on so I should have delivery in September for a 61 plater
-
I've ordered a new GTD
So you've ordered a new one when you already have one why?
Mk6 GTD Carbon Grey 59 plater, RCD510, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Rear Camera, ACC

Yes, similar experience to me. Ordered mine mid-November, factory confirmed acceptance of order early December, build week currently stands at week 24 (mid-June) so 30 weeks from order to build and with any luck, I will be able to take delivery early July. I'd have been more than happy with JoeGTI's 12-14 week wait!

Same here. Ordered end Sept 2010. In Feb was told the build date was 26. In April build date was confirmed to be week 23. So my car is being built next week  Not expected to be delivered until the end of this month or early next month. So I make that about 38 weeks?
Why are some taking so long? Is it the DSG gearbox causing the delay?
-
Saw a Silver GTD with the LED tail lights on the A1 yesterday evening, looked very smart, reminded me it's worth the wait.

Was it that the dealership already had a build slot, and you were converting one of their orders?
-
No, it was a fresh order. Don't think I got an existing build slot or an order already in the system wasnt changed for me or anything like that.
I think what happens here is the dealer gets on to the regional VW manager to try and get certain orders bumped up the list as much as possible. The salesman showed me an email from his regional manager specifying that she'd managed to get my car slotted in for a week 20/21 build.
-
Its a long wait and a bit of a pain. But its worked out ok for me, particularly when you get so far down the road of the order. If I had of been aware when I ordered I might have went elsewhere. However, I have got a 2010 price with a MY2012 car and further discount for the delay. So am hoping its been worth the wait. I have heard all sorts of reasons for delay for DSG to engine etc. I have given up asking.
-
I've also heard it's the DSG box causing delay. Mine was ordered approx week 13 with a build week of 25 confirmed, so only 12 weeks and it will be the MY2012.
What is the usual wait time from build week to delivery week??
-
i didn't order a DSG box..
i ordered my GTi in start of september'10 and got it just over 3 weeks ago..

I've ordered a new GTD as my existing one will be 2 years old in September 30,000 miles and I normally change cars every 2 years.

Mr F - The dealer did have a build slot and they converted that order to my spec

Look what I spotted outside my dealers this morning

That's a shiny motor, is it your new puppy?
Very jealous!
My Orders progressed to having a valid VW order Number now, no commission number or build week yet.
Why do VW wait weeks to decide if they want your (Aloe Blacc) "Dollar".

I'm actually not 100% sure it's mine cos I spotted it on my way to work and didn't get to speak to the salesman... but I'm fairly certain it is mine, it has the spec I ordered, etc! It seemed to be sitting very high, probably has those transport blocks in the suspension... i'd say it only came off the transporter this morning.
-
If this is your new GTD how come it has vancover wheels? Is this still an option in Ireland as opposed to the Charleston 18"?

Yep, the vancouver wheels are the only 18" option here, or at least that was the case 12 weeks ago. I'm very happy with them, they look great in the metal.!
-
I agree, they look great. I do prefer them to the Charlestons, Are you aware of other differences to the UK Spec?
-

Yeah I'm not sure about the charlestons either... Although the darker inserts would look good with White I reckon!
There are a few other spec differences. We get cruise control, auto-folding mirrors and the tyre pressure monitor all as standard. But then we don't get climate control! Climatic is standard, climate control is about €800, which I didn't bother with this time. I did spec it 4 years ago in my GTI... hopefully I won't miss it too much!

Looking forward to more pics when you collect, well assuming its yours!!

Still sitting the same way two weeks on. Going into see them tomorrow and looks like I'll be getting my deposit back from them.
-
Quite right mate, that's some nonsense you've had to go through.
-
Order cancelled this morning and bought a silver one this afternoon for collection on Saturday. A 60 plate, nothing special but a good runaround as that's all I need. I can change wheels, headunit at my leisure now.
Just pleased to finally have a car.

Maybe this is the way forward to cancel orders and VW just might get there act together not
-
You might be right, although I think they will just treat customers the way they are as they have a product that is desirable and folks will accept it. Almost like being a BMW customer.
Getting excited now. Up early on Saturday 5am to drive down to Huddersfield with a big grin on my face. Just need to convince the wife that her Vancouvers would look better on mine and the 17's would be better and more comfy on hers......no chance I'd get away with that

Joe....was it yours?

Yes, it's mine
Collecting it this afternoon.... can't wait!!!
-
Well, I collected it a couple of hours ago and I'm thrilled with it to say the least
It might be the "new car smell", but it feels so much smoother and more refined and comfortable than my MKV GTI. Road noise is much less, generally feel a lot more "cocooned". The interior quality is leagues ahead. I love the bluetooth integration with my iPhone, works brilliantly. And the folding mirrors are a very cool/useful feature.
I love the colour, it really looks the business and I'm delighted I stumped up for the xenons. The lights and the LED DRL's have drawn a lot of admiration already! Looking forward to when it gets dark to see them in action then!!
One question... are they still supposed to come with the bottle opener in the drinks holder? If so, mine's gone walkabout! Although I did keep the one from my GTI
For those of you still waiting... it really is worth it.

Congratulations on the birth of your new car. You must be a very proud daddy. As all new dads will tell you, your be in for a few sleepless nights waiting for the thrill of a drive the following day.
Give her a bath tomorrow, be gentle and post some pictures.
-
Nothing like picking up a new car  Only wish VW had their eye on the ball with the latest fiasco on delivery times as I'd be feeling the same as you, although just about to leave and drive south to get my GTD at 8:30am tomorrow then drive back home. A restless night in a premier inn for me tonight

Yes indeed it should have the bottle opener, well the GTI does so would think the GTD does too. Very nice looking motor there Joe here's to lots of happy motoring.
