Title: GTI, a good compromise for a PETROL performance Golf.
Post by: am1w on 06 May 2011, 20:26
Yesterday, I did an mpg comparison with a work colleague's Audi S3 Auto/DSG (whatever) Sportback and my manual GTI driving from work (Kings X) to West London, an 8 mile journey in some of the worst traffic conditions. Both our cars had full tanks of petrol (you know the clean stuff!). At the end of this momentous journey my average mpg was 26.1 and his 16.3!

I am so glad I did not buy an R as I would be loth to have a full fledged relationship with the guys in the Total petrol station.  :lipsrsealed:

So, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, lads and lasses, maybe these mpg figures will temper your lust for an R.

No where near that simple chap, I think you wouldn't really see much of a difference if you doth drove the same route etc

I followed him all the way and had to put up with his ugly arse for 45 minutes.
You could possibly be wrong, this time. But don't worry, I won't take it too seriously.

Yesterday, I did an mpg comparison with a work colleague's Audi S3 Auto/DSG (whatever) Sportback and my manual GTI driving from work (Kings X) to West London, an 8 mile journey in some of the worst traffic conditions. HE WENT ON A RAMDOM COURSE AND both our cars had full tanks of petrol (you know the clean stuff!). At the end of this momentous journey my average mpg was 26.1 and his 16.3!

I am so glad I did not buy an R as I would be loth to have a full fledged relationship with the guys in the Total petrol station.  :lipsrsealed:

I did not forget. I went to see him today at 3 pm. He was not in. He was probably out walking his dog as his BMW or Mercedes were not there either. I'll try tomorrow late morning.

But then again, this is where the money is and the weather is so good. One gets to accept this once one realizes one's closeness to Paris.

West Sussex where I live is the best of both worlds. Close to local towns and plenty of countryside  and only an hours drive north into london or an hours drive south to the south coast.

I can't believe the S3 or an R would be that bad fuel wise?

Herr Doktor does not accept this mind blowing finding. His satisfaction will only be obtained if we can repeat the whole exercise when we swap my horse with my colleague's mare.

I am sure your neck of the woods is lovely with tons of fairies and goblins providing the best of both worlds.

I must visit once I get that long awaited invertation from a certain lovely man.

For money read job or vice versa.
Money = job = food = house = car = decent life = happiness + less crime ...........

It seems it is about the money, unfortunately!

Stop compromising my original post. It's plain wrong.

The random run as you call it (obviously, your runs are perfectly organised and the traffic flow has been strictly controlled by your good self) comprised of 3 miles of stop/start traffic, 2 miles driving at a constant 40 mph, 1 mile driving at 50 mph and the rest in light traffic conditions with speed not in excess of 30 mph.

Out here in the sticks I too have ,
Money = self employment = food = houses = cars = decent life = happiness + no crime what so ever...

When I walk down the garden to my office with views over open countryside, I know which one I would prefer.

Thank you Martin for your kind invitation. I look forward to meeting you.
Andy, you can start ordering large building items to help Martin whilst you've still got your slvt-slot in operation.

Then the next thing I'd know would be the said building items would be used to jack my car up whilst the jolly rotter stole me BBSs....

No dear, he'll take the loose wheels first and then come back for the rest, through the slvt-slot and into the rest of the house. I'd tend to re-programme that chastity belt you have placed on your most valuable asset.
