Looking at changing my car next year i like both but ive had cars with V6 lumps before
and my thinking you can tune the gti better. and its not as heavy.
so thoughts on this anyone. both great cars just want to hear from you owners out there.
-
I think the GTI would be the better choice with fuel prices being what they are.
-
R32's can easily run sub 20 mpg. Not worth it for a slower car than a remapped GTI.
-
Get an edition 30 if you want to mod it as they give more bang for you buck. Check out hurdy's project page to see how far ypu can go with a little old golf

Just a whiff of the baseball cap about them though.
-
GTI every day - R32's are too slow and cost a fortune to make em go fast and they are too fat.
I'd go for an ED30 and map the life out of it

No, i was thinking someone thats put a toe bar on the back of his GTi is more "Pikey" Buttwash then Baseball cap :smug:

GTI or ED30 FTW
Don't get me wrong, I love the MKV R32, mainly for that sound of the V6, but it isn't worth the extra unless you specifically want to go for a Storm Developments Supercharger and 430bhp+ (approx £6k fitted). The it is definitely the one to go for
£13k for a MKV R and £6k for the kit and you are laughing........if you can afford the running expenses of fuel, tax etc.

Thanks for the replies looks like the GTI for me. Ive had my mk4 1.8T or 9 years now and just fancy a change even thow i still love the car and never had a problem since ive had it great cars..
-
I will be getting my next new car Xmas 2012, my choices are as follows in order of preference. All depends what I can afford really: ED30, Gti, GT 170.
-
R32 for me all the way , better than the Ed30 4WD is brilliant and id be happy with 250 bhp :smug:
-
I just had this choice and went for the Edition 30, but I intend to tune it.
The R32 did very little for me apart from the noise, and it felt noticeably heavier than the Ed30 to me.
The main thing that lets the Ed30 down is its brakes, they are dire. Easily sorted though.
Ed30 for me all the way. Or possibly an S3.

.............priceless  :smug:.

I like the R32 the most but 250hp is more than enough for me
-
For it'd be the Gti, but only because I love the noise of the R32 too much, my fuel bills would be astronomical

I wish something like that was available at that money when I had my r32's
-
ive got a 2007 gti at the moment but im thinking about going for a r32 in the next few weeks!!!
but having a few bmw's in the passed..... m3's are calling!!!!
im only 23 though so i got a feeling im guna have empty pockets soon
-
I tried an R32 and to be honest, it would probably be my choice because the grip from 4WD is awesome and the noise is superb.
I chose the GTI because of the 5ish mpg advantage and the £200 saving on the road tax.
The road tests say the GTI is the better drive due to extra agility, but in real terms, I don't think there's much in it.
-
The R32 blooks much nicer than the GTI too

But you did not.
You went for a diesel.
Actions speak louder than words.

R32 FTW
Yes they are heavy, yes they drink petrol and they could be quicker
but
as an overall package they are bloody awesome and i would have another in a heartbeat
non res Mitek + tunnel = Massive noise win!!

GTI is the only choice. Have you even looked at an R32? I mean seen one with your own eyes? They are pig ugly :lipsrsealed:

In MK4 form your right, but I got to agree with Nick in terms of the MK5. The front is basically a Jetta

Hearing a MK5 R32 with DSG get thrashed really gives me wood. Them seamless sound it makes on gear changes make me go all woobly at the knees.

Interesting end to the video, someone wanted a word

Sounded like he said: "okay, now you can chat!"
