Title: 2 Quick Questions
Post by: simmo1077 on 04 May 2011, 21:08
Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to the forum as i picked up my mk5 gttdi a few weeks ago. Just have two quick questions i hope you can help with.

I am looking to install a cruise control system to the car as i do a lot of motorway driving. I was just wondering whether its a case of getting the indicator stalk with the cruise control functions and coding it in or is there more to it than that?

Secondly, i'm looking to change the original CD player for a Sat Nav system. Was just wondering which system you guys recommend.

Cheers!

For the Sat Nav, RNS 510 if you have the money.

Vrstu used to install cruise control back in the day. Pm him to see if he can sort you out.

I woul also recommend the rns 510. I can't imagine having a car without it. Amazing piece of kit if you can afford the high price

The rns510 imo is a highly limited system.

Will only play dvds and either mp3 or wmp music files. No other formats supported. No flashy things like album art. Needs extra kit to support iphone. Latest firmware and maps means it now has full postcode support.

But in terms of oem fitment/look etc it's spot on. Do your research beforehand.

I wouldn't say "highly" limited. It's a fantastic all rounder. I have the MDI iPhone connection and Fiscon phone prep (yes, both extra money I know) which, along with the excellent mapping, intuitive interface and OEM finish makes it the centrepiece of of my driving experience. If only it had a better head unit, it would be perfect...

Which is why I said "IMO".

If you look at some other aftermarket HUs, it's not as good.
