Hi all,
I have been following the forum for some time and finally took hold of my GTi as the weekend. Alas, mortgage and kids forced me down the used route but I am more than happy. In my car gleaning regime I like to buff and polishe everything to keep it looking a1 but I am struggling to bring the chrome exhaust pipes back to their former shiny condition. Both have what seems like a carbon deposit film encrusted on them so they essentially appear black. No amount of scrubbing or reasonable application of chrome cleaner\brasso is shifting it. I would appreciate if any of you folks have found the same issue or can recommend some sort of off the shelf cutting agent to address.
Cheers
Lee

Autosol seems a popular choice.
Personally mine are just left half black most of the time, some nice matt black trims would be a good idea so I'd never have to worry about them.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you need some fine grade wire wool and a decent metal polish (can't remember the one I use). You can purchase these items in Halfords. It takes a lot of elbow grease but the results will be well worth it.

Cheers for warm welcome and helpful advice chaps.

Very fine wire wool and something like Meguiars NXT Metal Polish. I did mine and they look as good a new.
Great title for your post, you'll fit I'm well here

Brasso works well too.
Looks like he's tried different cleaning products. I think (very fine) wire wool in conjunction with Autosol, Brasso, Megs NXT will really help.

I presume you are speaking from personal experience with your failing Chinese takeaway business.
Silly boy, wontonboy.

Welcome. +1 on Autosol. Cheaper than Meguiars too although I have shares in Megs products given the amount I buy for detailing.
-
It's wire wool and T-cut metal polish for me.

Same with me...
I don't let it get dirty enough to have to use wire wool!!

Autoglym metal polish works well.

Autosol gets my vote. Used it from day one and brings em up lovely everytime. Can't beat that stuff with a bit of elbow grease

Sounds like you've tried everything that would normally work; so get some Gunk engine cleaner, that will remove it very easily, then polish them with Brasso or similar.
Obviously the previous owner wasn't too bothered about appearances.
