changed the engine mounts and week later engine was trailing 5 inchs from the floor after crushing the oil filter and lerching forward. since this i have had to renew the exhaust as it banana'd under the stress and obviously the bracket and filter :S could have been so much worse as it looked ok when we changed the mounts.

How did that happen then?  :undecided:
-
still not sure but think it was weakened by the engine mounts being gone and soon as i replace them it was taking all the force and just snapped the mounts where really gone the engine used to move so much the how car would shake at like 50mph the steering and dash the lot.

this was going to be my next job....think i'll let the garage do it! hope it does not cost you loads to do

front mount is simple its the rear one thats a pig its difficult to get too and really shouldnt be attempted without axle stands and a proper jack. local garage should be able to do them for few notes cant be sure but the standard 8v mounts are about £10-20 each and 16v and rallye ones are more cant say for sure someone on here should be able to tell you, i know someone on here who had front and rears changed for £60 anyone had them done from a garage got a rough quote???

My MK3 did this tonight - oil filter hitting cross member and bracket sheared!
I had changed the front mount so maybe I should do all 3 now?
-
shouldnt have too they should all be ok but when you replace the bracket make sure you check the bolts are ok and do them up tight cause i sheered one off few weeks ago and was back to square one
