does anyone have any ideas how to get more mpg out of my mk2 1.6 driver i estimate it is around 28mpg of normal driving, is that roughly what everyone else is getting, iv heard of ecotech valves give better consumption?

my 8v hits 35mpg on cruse mode if that helps

Optimax does cost more than regular unleaded, but your engine runs more efficient and gives you a better mpg, and therefore will not be more expensive to run your car on.

Add to this the cleaning effect of Optimax and you will be saving on injector cleaner.  I read recently that its worthwhile getting any higher octane fuels from a busy garage as the octane rating can reduce over time due to evaporation of the fuel vapour.

Why busy?  Because they will require more fuel deliveries so that the fuel you buy will have been in the tanks less time. :wink:

28mpg seems low to me. I'd suggest getting a full service first and see how that goes. You could try an ecoteck valve as they seem to make a difference on carb engines but not on injection systems. As for the optimax bit, it's probably as broad as it's long, when I used it I found that I got the same amount of miles for the same amount of pounds spent, for example, if I put 50ltrs of Optimax in I'd get 300 miles but if I put 51ltrs of normal unleaded in I'd get 300 miles so the monetary value was the same anyway, these are not exact figures, but you get my drift.

I have just got back from a 150 mile trip in my mk3, and the mfa was reading an average of 38mpg for the trip!

Most of the driving was on motorways / dual carriage ways, sticking to 70-75mph, with a bit of a steady 1 road driving.

Had four adults in the car as well so not to bad if you ask me :grin:
