Title: Can anyone help please?
Post by: redrob on 25 March 2005, 11:36
Hi, have a really simple problem, I have just bought a mk3 gti which is in excellent condition with the only problem being that the illumination for the heating system and fans doesnt seem to work. I guess the bulb has gone. I have made an attempt to get in behind there and see if i can change the bulb but i just cant seem to get the panel off! Does anyone know how much of it needs to come off, how you get it off, and is it an easy job? Thanx.

the good old confusing Haynes manual
4 screws behind the removable panel surround; around the switches
2 screws to remove the ash tray holder
carefully remove the controls. unclip the bulb?
sounds easy but as its a golf every thing tends to fit tightly.
hope this might help?

HI , I THINK YOU WILL FIND THE BULB FOR HEATER ILLUMINATION BEHIND THE CENTRE CONTROL KNOB .THIS SHOULD JUST PULL STRAIGHT OFF AND THEN JUST UN-CLIP THE GREEN BULB HOLDER AND HEY PRESTO !! .AS FOR THE FAN ,IF IT ONLY WORKS ON FULL SPEED IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE RESITSTOR PACK ( WHICH YOU WILL FIND BEHIND THE LEFT HAND LOWER PARCEL SHELF ) ALSO CHECK THE SOCKETS TO THIS AS THEY SOMETIMES GET OVER HEATED AND MELT IF THE FAN GETS SEIZED, CHECK IT FOR FREE MOVEMENT,   HOPE THIS HELPS
