Title: Modified airbox.....Could it cause poor MPG?
Post by: Godzilla on 01 May 2011, 21:38
Anyway!!  I modified the airbox on our MK3 2.0 8v by drilling 6 x 8mm drill holes in the front of the lower box to create a better induction. I do a lot of town driving and have noticed my average MPG is 24.8MPG........I can get almost that out of my Saph Cossie!!  She is fully serviced......I have read that a faulty temp sender can decrease MPG but could it be anything else, I am driving her very light footed aswell

Temp sender could be playing up.

Airbox will make little difference tbh.

I would take the figure with a pinch of salt, town driving over an average isnt going to give great figures anyway.

My finacee has t0ld me this m0rning that 0ver the past few weeks she is getting 192 miles t0 £50 0f petr0l at £1.35 a litre......That w0rks 0ut w0rse than my C0ssie?  When we first g0t the car it was sh0wing 35-37mpg. Well in theory if you have more cold air coming into the engine the ecu will put an equivillent increase of fuel in (stoichimetric mix - bound to be spelt wrong). Having said that the more knowledgeable guys on the forum have said it shouldn't make much difference.....

How about taping up the holes with duct tape as an experiment to see if it gets better?

Thank you for that mate!

I had to buy a keyboard and plug it into my laptop as it was driving me mad......Plus being a moderator on a Steroid forum where a lot of 'o's are used in drug names it really was a must!

Promoting or discouraging the use of steroids?

Promoting or discouraging the use of steroids?

Certainly not promoting mate!  I have used them for many years due to my sports (Bodybuilding & Ultimate Fighting) and have gained a vast amount of knowledge via trail and error, speaking to Pharmaceutical company's direct on the subject of Anabolic Steroid usage in Bodybuilding and a great knowledge of finding out what are fakes and underground labs that produce Steroids regarding the conditions.
I find a lot of newbies who are 16-21 years old join our forum and want a quick fix.........These are the types of guys and girls that can be rather annoying as you find out they have been training for say 6 months, there diet is terrible and so is there training. So I advise very strongly against using any Steroid. Some of the members have been training for 2-3 years and are mid 20's and are going to use them along with a good diet and training and want to know which one to use with minimal side effects. I am happy to help such people on correct dosage and what to expect and what sides they may encounter. Then we have the advanced Bodybuilders who use a lot and have done for many years and want to know what course to do next as in what Steroids work best with others, this being known as a stack. I don't ever say to members 'You must use Anabolic Steroids to get big' rather than 'Lets look at your diet and training first' then sort that out first. This is my advice to anyone who has been Bodybuilding for some time and come to a halt as in gains.....Diet and training. If somebody is going to use them regardless and has a good diet and is over 25 then I am more than happy to share my knowledge.

Bit long winded but Steroids have a very bad name due to the media etc so I needed to stress that promoting the usage is not what I do!

If you have drilled holes in the airbox on the front you will be letting hot air from the rad straight in!
But even so that shouldnt make much difference to mpg.
Fault lies elsewhere!

Thanks Len

I have now sealed the holes and have ordered a temp sender from VW that will be here tomorrow! I am in your part of the world in a few weeks, going to PM Billy and see if he is about.

Hope your well mate
