Im doing a conversion late summer on mine 1.8t I think but everyone uses the o2a 16v box.
Has anyone tried to fit a mk4 6 speed from a 180hp model?
-
Can be done but not really worth it tbh.
-
Whys that mate i thought it would be better for cruising speeds?
-
i been told not to do it to my own mk4 becuase the retios are so short they basically work out to be the same as a mk4 5 box
cheers

Just because you will have a extra gear doesn't mean you will get more speed.
I do remember reading in a PVW mag they had a final drive that would do 200mph at something like 7000rpm but you would need about 400bph to reach that speed.

I know what you mean but it not why i was asking bud.
In my 8v at 80mph its at 4k revs, not sure if the 16v box is the same but my thinking was the 6 speed box would bring the revs down 500-1k ish.

My Octavia VRs is a 180bhp on a 5 speed and it is much better gearing than the 8v, still cannot see the need for the 6spd box.

To be honest I'm just looking at options mate. Everyone uses the 16v box. I take it the mk4 box doesn't fit?

Don't think so, you could also look at changing the final drive ratio.
-
The mk4 box sits on a different mount thats why people use the 16v box so it sits on the mk3 subframe
