Title: Manifold question.................
Post by: Martz on 25 March 2005, 00:11
Whats the best upgrade on a manifold? Its for a 9a Block, was told 4 branch but its all Russian to me. Any suggestions would be good.

Cheers

Ps. I told the misses the manifold has rusted and needs replacing. Her answer was - Get it done because we don't want the a feck up like the cam belt on the A3! So I need a good upgrade!

 TSR do a stainless one for about £260 which will last forever and give the results your after, although when you've been bending over the engine for an hour and a half trying to undo the manifold allen bolts blindfold you will wonder if you've done the right thing, don't forget the k&n filter and drilled airbox to get the best results........

if your getting a S/S manifold then you need to uprate your front engine mount at least. S/S manifolds have alot less flex in them then cast iron and crack very easily

they are a very good mod. but if also been told that a std manifold that has been port matched is equally as good!!

i've seen alot of secondhand stainless manifolds being sold ''with small crack, simple to repair" makes you wonder why they cracked and if they are that simple to repair why are they being sold on for some poor sap to buy? like gambit says they are prone to cracking as they are more brittle and a ported original will do just the same, especially with a better down pipe.

Also try www.Awsome.co.uk thats where i got mine. I also upgraded all engine mounts to vibra technics ones just to be sure it aint gonna move. Also pay somebody to fit it! Its too much hastle for a novice mechanic. Find a cheap mechanic who is willing to do it. Mechanics who will have done it before will probably say no.
