Title: Amp not working and speaker wiring colours

I just installed my sub and amp and my amp isn't working. I used a new amp kit and all fuses are intact, but the amp isn't coming on.

Also in the dash, which speaker wires are the correct ones for use in a crossover?

Did you take the remote live from the ignition? If so have you turned the ignition on? :lipsrsealed:

Do any lights come on the amp.

Normally you'll have a red or a green.

Red means protect. Green means ok.

If neither are on then a wires not connected correctly.

Easy way to check remote is touch it on the 12v.

Your not having much luck so far are you mate.

Not so much no. :grin:

I put the trim back together as I was getting pissed off, although when I turned it on afterwards, the amp and sub popped on for a split second, and the amp is now in protect mode.  :undecided:

I managed to get this sorted yesterday. I took the wiring that was going to the crossovers in the dash out from the amp, and the sub was working fine and amp was running as it should.

This then led me to believe something was up with the original wires from the car, so I used some wiring to go from the woofer out terminal to the woofer in the door cards, and low and behold, it worked! So did it with the other side too and it was fine.

I've now completely eliminated original wiring so now my system is like this:

Headunit > 2 x RCAs (one for speakers, one for subwoofer) > speaker wiring for sub straight to amp > speaker wiring from amp to crossovers > wiring directly from crossover to speakers in doorcards > tweeters directly to crossovers in the dash.

Sounds a bit punchier than before too, I suppose it's because I'm using the 4awg cable now instead of the 8awg?

Thicker speaker cable will allow for a slight increase in midbass usually. God to hear you've got it sorted bud

I hate fault finding.

I've just done 12 runs of speaker cable. I hope they all work first time lol.
