Right so I put £20 of 95ron fuel in (15L) and get around 100 miles int 1.4 8v is that about right ?
Also is there any common problems with the fuel gauges because at times it drastically drops right down to empty then goes back up after a few miles ?
-
well thats around 34 miles to the gallon which doesnt seem too bad depending on how your driving
I havnt done much driving in my golf 1.4 but my astra 1.4 averages 30-35 most of the time... but i dont drive that economically
If i keep my foot to the floor it will go down into the 20's

try dealing with 24 mpg
-
Tbh that's about what I got in my 1.4. I found that it was mainly because you have to thrash it just to keep up with the general flow of traffic.
In terms of regular day to day driving my Gti gives me about the same fuel consumption as my 1.4 did, simply because you don't have to drive it as hard.

Sounds about right tbh
-
Yeah, sounds about right. My old 1.8 GL saw me about 50 miles per £10 so I'd say it's okay.
-
My new GTI is getting me around 30/34 the old one gets 25/30, thats what trying to get more horses does to your wallet
-
My mpg is awful, I'm lucky if I get 60 miles for £20
-
that sound about right atm on my gti 2.0 16v im geting between 30 - 40 mpg but when it idels it drinks more LOL!

Sounds like it is running rich, would be worth replacing the temp sender as a 1st step.

try checking the inlet manifold cable which runs at the back of it to the ecu, and also give ur throttle body a clean!
-
Fuel gauges are notoriously ghey on mk3's due to the idiotic fuel tank design.

And a poorly designed sender

I've found some fault codes
Co2 sensor -changed
Idle speed sensor ?
Idle speed limit exceeded i think I'll find exact codes later ,
What do I need to check on that ecu cable ?
Cleaned the tb and mass air flow sensor , changed plugs and air filter and a service still not much better .
