Typical, just been paid, all set to finally sort my sounds out with new headunit and speakers all round, and think i've got an ABS problem :angry:
Basically, got in the car the other day, ABS light stayed on for the entire 1.5hr journey. Seemed to drive ok. Next day, ABS light stayed on when started the car, then went out after about 15mins. Since the light has gone back to normal (comes on at startup then goes out after a second or two) but when slowing down for a junction I intermittently get a strange grinding / clunking noise as I brake, and the pedal depresses (goes a bit limp!) a bit for a moment. Is this the ABS kicking in? If I brake really gently it doesn't seem to do it. It only happens for a few seconds then drives as normal.
A couple of weeks back I had a stone trapped behind the disc which was causing a right racket. Is it possible that it could have damaged the ABS sensor? If so would this match the symptoms above? And if it does sound like dodgy sensor I suppose its vagcom or diagnostics to prove it is it?

Does sound like a faulty sensor, best bet is to scan with vagcom to confirm.

Mine is doing the same at the mo , I may just take the bulb out as I hate the way abs feels when is does kick in , I don't go fast enough to lock up the brakes without abs
Does anyone know what the possible faults may be ?

unplugging light is an MOT fail, No ABS is an MOT fail.
Sensors are £17 from ECP and take about 30 mins to change.
Vag com or cheap fault code reader will tell you which wheel is affected

ABS saved my ass the other day when some stupid women threw her door open into the road!

doesn't sound like ABS to me. Would get brakes checked ASAP.

doesn't sound like ABS to me. Would get brakes checked ASAP.
ABS running feels like the pedal "kicking" / "pulsing"
yeah the pedal does pulse but it def makes a bit of a metallic noise at the same time. Does this happen when ABS comes on?
Will be getting it checked out in the week as be stupid to cut any corners when it comes to brakes

Further to this, the first time i changed one i just checked each sensor with a multi meter if you are feeling really tight and dont want to buy a reader!
Expect to change all the sensors at least once in the time you own a mk3.
