Title: Problem with cooling fan - can anyone help??
Post by: Miss Piggy on 08 September 2003, 14:54
Hope someone can help......

I have a k reg 1993 1.4 Golf CL (I think that's a Mark 3 :-[ - not the best at car stuff!!!).

I've got a problem with the fan - basically the fuse keeps blowing, so I think I've got a problem with the wiring or the fan motor...... I can't afford to spend too much on it, so any help/advice would be gratefully recieved..... what should I look for, what might I need to replace, how much would I expect it to cost if I do take it to a garage?

Also, anyone know any good garages in the Newcastle area??

Thanks!

hello again,

I think if the wiring loom isn't damaged then the motor itself is at fault. About ?150-?200 to get done at a garage for the motor itself.

Might be worth a quick look to make sure that the fan blades are rotating freely. I had a similar problem on my cabrio when I first started it up after 5 years in a garage. Turned out to be a dent in the fan/radiator cowling was preventing the fan from turning :-\

Yep, got to worth a look. Unplug the fan then spin it by hand, see if it is noisy or gets stuck on anything.
