Has anyone had this problem before??? Also.... the heat shield on my manifold has started to disintigrate = rattles and vibrations from the rest of it that is still attached any suggestions?? Not to hot on DIY mechanics etc...so please reply in basic terminology! thanks  :-/

I was right about the rear beam then? ;)
Give C&R Enterprises in Notingham a ring, they do uprated exhaust rubbers for heavy, non-standard exhausts.
As for the heat shield just order a new one from VW, I'm kicking myself because i saw some in an auto jumble at GTI inters for ?10 new, but did'nt get one-DOH! :)
