Title: help setting system up
Post by: deebow on 27 April 2011, 22:26
Hi
was wondering if anyone can offer a bit of advice.
recently installed a pioneer f900bt with a jl 12w3d4 sub and jl amp e1400 amp  in my golf and after messing about with the settings for last  month i still cant get it sounding right.

if i set the amp  and head unit frequency at 80 and just mess with the eq. i ended up with the sub sounding ok but half of the bass coming from the door speakers making it sound boomy and unclear overall.

if i set the HPF to 50hz the bass is all handled by the sub but it sounds week and can only be felt when the volume 3/4 up.

can anyone recommend what settings and options i should roughly using on these and also is there any guides you can recommend that help show how to set up the eq.

thanks

What front speakers do you have?

I'll be running my front end down to 50-60Hz but I've got 8 mids. A single set of comps I'd generally run them down to 80Hz.

If I set the fronts to 80Hz, set the sub at 80Hz also.

The lower you crossover the fronts the more secure they're going to need to be.

Another thing to bear in mind is if you use filters on both amp and hu it can make the sound go funny. Try to use either or mate not both. Just speaking from experience I've made an install sound better by doin this.
