Hi all

Im new to the golf gti scene so bear with me! I would just like to say hello! and obviously seek advice.

Im after a mark 4 GTi 3 door but not sure which engine to choose - 1.8 or the 2.0 (would like the turbo but cant afford ins etc)
could someone run through the differrence between the two engines? which is best etc..

cheers and thanks in advance.

Hello.

I've got a 1999 Mk4 3 door 1.8 GTI (non turbo).  This is 125bhp, and 0-60 in just over 9 sec.

I wouldn't bother with the 2.0 myself, as they're not quite so nippy (although nice enough cars all the same) - these are 115bhp, and 0-60 in 10.5 sec.

If you can afford it, the 1.8T is worth it (150bhp or 180bhp), with lots of tuning capacity.

It's well worth going for the 1.8 and if you can sort the extra money it's worth getting the 1.8t.  My chipped turbo costs me £600 fully comp which i know sounds like a lot of money but it's worth it all day long!!!
