Title: Sparks from Gearbox Earth Strap

Have got an 8v mk3 gti. The car started having problems starting in the last 2 days. The starter motor would turn slowly and eventually get the car going. Its not turning at all now and sparks are visible from the gearbox earth strap.

I have tightened it up and even tried running a jump lead from the battery negative to the engine block, but even that sparks when cranking and the starter doesnt turn.

Is there any other places I should be looking. Im also slightly worried as there appears to have been some melting on the wires to the coil.

I think your gona need a new starter motor as its not taking the current so arcing out
