Ok so ive had my 8 valver for over a year now and i think its about time i started doing a bit of work on her. When i bought the car a year ago she had 86000 on the clock and looked very clean apart from a couple on dings on the front wings and bonnet.
I wasnt really put off by it though as other than than she was pretty clean with a working full leather vr6 heated interior. The best bit was i managed to gut the guy down to £450 for her. Heres what she looked like when i first got her.

Shortly after buying her i had a mate of mine sort out the dings on the front end, he put 2 new wings on and a bonnet fully sprayed and fitted for £100 which i was well pleased with, the only unfortunate thig was the wings were off an older model which had the square repeaters on but never mind i got it back and fitted clear repeaters on her.
Thats how she stayed until around 3 months ago when i decided to de-arch her. the fronts i had no worries about as they had just been done but it was the rears was very worried about as apparently you find rust more often than not reading up on here, heres what i found:
Heres the front.

And the dreaded Rears.

There is rust there but i was kind of expecting worse oh well off to my mate she goes again. I am waiting on delivery of some parts to carry on with the project ill update with pics soon.

Don't see many in silver, looks a good sound base for a project.

Yeah i thought the same! got loads of stuff to go on her when it arrives but after ive fitted all that not really sure what to do next! suggestions on a postcard then

May get a HID kit for it. Does anyone know if i need 2 to get the dipped and main beam in xenon?

Ok so heres an update of whats been going on with the car. I bought what i thought was a mk3.5 steering for the car but after a bit of a discussion on here i founf out it was actually a mk4 wheel which i ended up retrofitting. heres what i did and how it ended up.
And heres it finished and working only problem being is the airbag light stays on. anyone know how to rectify it?
Ive also put in some nice coulor concept silver dials with the milage on 800 out on the original which i was well chuffed with!
Last but not least i finally treated myself to some nice TT Comps.

Not sure really where to go from here. anyone got any suggestions?

needs to be alot lower
de arch looks baba with the black trim on the sides and black top bumpers, either change all that to silver items or put the arches back on
-
Love those wheels, If only I had the money. . As Kells said, deffo needs lowering, and not too keen on the headlights but if thats what you like, thats what matters. If you do get fed up with the lights, joey mod your old ones, and I reckon they will look spot on! Badgeless grill too with black slats ftw.:wink: Apart from that, the exterior looks spot on. Heated leather, mk4 wheel, and CC dials all look ace btw, gear knob looks a bit tatty though so a new one there perhaps. Other than that, maybe new headliner and pillars, then a few engine/exhaust mods, and some cleaning of the bay and then you will have what I wish to achieve!!!
-
Thanks guys actuallly in the flesh im not sure the car can be lowered anymore at the rear its sitting quite snug to the arch as it is, the front i totally agree it could do with going a bit lower.
As for the plastics im thinking im wanting to remove all traces of them and colour code the lot but ive not seen one in that colour and im just wondering whether it will be too much.
Headlights again i kinda agree but i think it makes the car look alot cleaner and modern. the old ones i find just ugly. i may change them eventually to something a bit more compromising. Im also toying with a HID kit too.
Interior really beginning to look wicked the gear knob does need changing but im holding out for a 3.5 knob and handbrake lever. proving difficult to find at the moment though.
What do you reckon i should do with the headlining and pillars?

The VR6 Highline black pillars look really good, or spray them matt black for the cheaper option.
As for the headlining, lots of people have covered theirs with comicbook hero type single quilt covers - If you want to be quite unique. Or cover it with a different colour fabric to make it look spanking and a bit newer. You can also get chrome door handles to break up the 90s style black plastic as I have done. Again its not to everyones taste, but I like it, and like I said it breaks up the constant black.
-
First off your sig pic is waaay too big
As for the car, the clocks, wheel and leather look great. I also agree that it looks odd with the arches off but all other trim left on, also the front needs to come down about 15mm, then it'll be sitting sweet
-
  yeah i know i need to shrink that bad boy a bit!
Im looking into some decent coilies but not really sure what to go for and what to expect to pay for some decent ones. anyone got any suggestions on that? also how expensive are they to have fitted?
-
Decent coilovers your looking at £400+ and for fitting expect to add on another £150. Fitting them is pretty easy though, i'm not mechanically minded and managed to do mine with the help of a mate relatively easily
-
Have a look in the classifieds on here. Nearly new sets come up all the time for less than half what dom said. You can get a cheap set for under 200 quid but they dont tend to last too long and the ride is pretty pooh.
-
hmmm cheers dom might be worth thinking about sean thanks for the heads up, ill keep my eyes open! i want some high end ones though as theres no point in compromising your ride and handling with cheap kak!

I've been on the look out for a set of 2nd hand high spec ones for the last few weeks and hardly any have come up. There are some nearly new Eibach ones over on Edition but they're still up for £400
-
Fook
Oh well looks like the savings account is going to take another rather large raping soon then
Dom when you did your coilies was it pretty straight forward common sense stuff to change over? ive found a couple of guides the rear looks piss easy but the front looks more complicated. also how easy is it to set the ride height equally front and rear?

It was pretty simple to do, rears were easier than the fronts but neither were hard. The only issue I had was that I rounded the old bolts off because they were seized
I'd soak everything in decent penetrating fluid (plus gas or similar) for 24 hours before you plan on doing it. Setting the height involves a little bit of guess work, I tent to set the front/rear independently. E.g. set the rear to the height I want, making sure that each side is lowered an equal amount (measure from something fixed on the car, or count threads!) then do the same for the front
-
Nice one
Just have to find myself an assistant for a few hours once i get em! ill be reporting back once i get them and share the blood sweat and tears on the thread
-
You're in Kent. Where abouts mate? Fitted many coilovers. Could lend a hand. :)
-
looks nice even on the 1st pic i said to myself wow thats a bloody bargins and its very nice the black leather looks very cool  LIKE
-
Thanks sharki! yeah i must admit £450 was an absolute steal especially when she needed no mechanical work doing for about 8 months. even then it was only an abs sensor! to date all she has had done is a clutch, abs sensor, a gear linkage bracket and some brake hoses. although im fearing she might need a new gearbox as it makes a grinding noise in reverse. :undecided:
-
Sorry bellend completely missed your reply :embarassed:
Im in rochester mate! if your nearby i will probably take you up on that. where abouts are you mate?
-
Another Kent based tug, these things are multiplying like rabbits!

Ah cool cool mate I'm in London side of Kent, Chislehurst way but I practically live in Strood.
I will load my car up with tools and come give you a hand if you want when you get 'em mate.
-
Nice one mate. ill take you up on that when i get em. i used to live in strood funny enough where abouts are you 'practically' living?
