Title: Golf 25 years (what's it off?)
Post by: sveed1.8T on 26 April 2011, 15:12: Right, approximately 5 years ago, I bought this gear knob and gaitor off eBay with the idea of adapting it to fit my mk3 golf. I never got round to round to it, and it has safely been stored away until now. I know this is not from an Anni, as it is not a golf ball and it is only marked as 5 gears, but what is it from? It has got what appears to be a part number, but it is extremely faded! :undecided: I just want to know if it's a piece of junk or if it is in fact quite rare (as I have never seen another like it). Any light on the history of this gear knob would be greatly appreciated! :smiley:

The label, from what I can make out, reads:
VW Germany
ETU / KW 17/00
1J0 711 ~~~ AR LBC

The '~' is the part that I can't make out! :sad:

Maybe? :undecided: As I said, it could be a little gem, but I just don't know!? :undecided: It does look like it is manufactured to a high standard, with the leather. It also has the blue stitching, which didn't they do that for the R32 gaitor??

I know!! :grin: :grin: that's why I'm trying to find out why it is! Wouldn't mind an Anni knob though! :smiley:

ive just googled it, and found a few on ebay, says its from a Mk4 gti, ''unusal genuine 25 years golf GTI gear knob''. as i said could just be a few one off put into normal GTI's?

I'm guessing that the consensus is, that this was a nice upgrade for your 5speed golf (most favourably the gti). :smiley:

Cheers fella! :smiley: Tbh, if my Derv was 5speed, it would have been on it in a jiffy! This is a rare item; one that is different to the 'scene' choice of gear knob, which is possibly why some people are not fond? Regardless, you will not see these kicking about at your Dub meets and comps, which are littered with .:R knobs and Anni knobs!!

The longer I have it, the rarer it becomes! :grin:
