well its been a damn long while since i been in the mk2 section!! , any ways, just got m self a new toy, another mk2 16v gti, been stood for about 8 years, its a j plate 90 spec jobby, only 108k miles, ive known the car the last 15 years, paintwork crap round filler after a bad paint job and had aftermarket tailgate spoiler which isnt there anymore along with some badges and other little bits , but tis been brought back fromt he dead by a friend of mine and has full mot, 6 months tax and new brakes all round....
heres a few pics after a 80 mile thrap today and doing some t cutting n stuff....

so a bit of paint to sort along with the missing bits, and a drop / stiffen of 50mm it will do me for a while as my work ride and occasional cadwell tool..
im after the following bits so if any one can help that would be great!!
passenger side front jacking point cover (90 spec 3 door)
golf ball gear knob
leather gear gaiter
oe orange side repeaters (pair)
gti badges that go on 90 spec door trims
probs some other bits too, but have listed a wanted ad in the wanted section!
Cheers

Very nice, will make a good car I'm sure... what's the colour code on that? looks like Flash Red to me!

cheers!!.... will get some more pics soon, has had after market gear gaiter / knob fitted back in the day (red leather yuk!!), and a red/ black steering wheel which was also fitted from when i can remember, but is a univeral boss so i can soon change that for something a bit more tastefull! , has has the head ported and polished years ago when the headgasket went, but has probably done less than 1000 miles since then, and has had ne wcamblet etc just done even though it was done during head work, has full stainless scorpion system with upswept pipes which were cool in the day, not so much now, but sounds nice and frees a few ponies, modded the airbox today and fitted diffo panel filter and made no end of difference, rainbow interior is spotless, not a fray or wear mark anywhere... fitted a mp3 headunit today as the face fromt he sony minidisc headunit (how old!! lol) has gone missing so no use to me!! shame as it would have been very retro-ish and haing a decent 10 disc changer in the boot with all the cables seems a shame but hey ho!!
not doing a 'mods' as such other than putting all the missing bits back and back to standard looking and a subtle stiffen n drop
:)

did look on the sticker in the boot today thom but cant remember the code! , im not gonna guess cause all i have in my head is my mrs's beetle turbo paint code... lol... it will be what ever red they did a 91 16v in?? tornado red? but i think there was a few diffo shades of it so ill have to get the code and make sure the paint match is good.... lol

I've definitely got at least two standard mk2 16v steering wheels and I may have a golf ball gear knob, gaitor and side indicators if you are interested?
Just read your wanted post, may have a rear spoiler as well....

got most of the bits i need thanks to a member on here  , got given a set of shocks n springs which ive fitted, not too bad theyve lowered it alot but have coilovers on order so i can get it how i like, spoiler, jacking point cover and gear knob / gaiter all sorted, have just brought some badges for the side trim for a very reasonable price, so just got to sort these side repeaters (found a set in the boot!!) so might tackle taking arch liners off tomorrow and seeing how these strange round things are fitted! , one more bit im after, there seems to be a small piece of rear quater trim missing on one side, between where there rear quater trim meets the wheel arch?? small bit looks about 8mm wide and looks as though its a stick on job..... so if any one has any of them let me know!!

just got some areas of paint to sort now then shes not in bad shape, i actually enjoy getting up to drive to work in the morning!! , not bad on fuel when driven sensibly, ive got over the rough running / idle issues following a guide, now just have to live with going back to a 20 year old car!! wouldnt mind a bit more poke tbh, and cant remember what to do to the 16v's to liven them up but it will do for now!!, cant see me using it in the winter though as forgot how sh!te the heating / de mister etc is... lol

Might just be the picture but looks like the OS corner of the front bumper is sticking out from the wing, possibly in need of a new bumper bracket? (about £10 on ebay)
I miss my old red GTI
-
possibly mate, it seems a bit loose on the bit it slides onto, least of my worries though!! id be more worried about shearing a 20 year old bolt taking the bumper off!! so it can stay as it is for now, is just something for me to use for work and the occasional trackday, im not fussed about trying to make it mint, it is a used 20 year old car and as much as i love to see out of the box style cars i also probably look more at the genuine aged cars that have seen a life and can tell a story!! there made to be driven and used in my eyes, ive had show cars etc before and they are a f00kin nightmare as every defect or spec of dust does your head in!! daily driver is where its at :)

Yeh but its a simple repair job and it would (and did) bug the hell out of me hence i replaced my broken one
I do like the look of your car though :afro:
-
have got the twin wiper set up to put back too, but am minus the short arm and blade, so will check tomorrow if any bits i need to sort as the single wiper is er... crap to say the least!! wouldnt be so bad but dosnt park where id like it too!! , just hope the bits ive got the for the correct side of the car and not from the early mk2 as they were the same as lhd set up  from what i remember anyways,,,, will have to check tomorrow and then try and source the short arm :) also after a gti 16v badge for the grill, been watching a few on ebay but they go for silly money!! if id have known how much people wanted for the bits i was after id have tried to get for a bit less but the prices for mk2 demand bits seem silly!!
-
looks good that

There are two Wiper boss/Spline sizes to watch for... Make sure you get the correct one... I have a set of both and a complete wiper assembly - Again both sizes...

well the head gasket went on it last night, was on my 3rd sighting lap at cadwell park and it started running a bit sh!te, then first lap was the only lap!!
on inspection this morning it seems who ever did the head gasket last time damaged it from the looks of it????
and this is where it has failed.
any bits im after is now on hold as im not sure whether to repair it or break it or sell it as is.... car handled well enough and braked well enough (not that i was going overly fast on the sighting laps), just a bit annoyed as didnt want to be considering a engine conversion just yet, i had plans to do that over winter in the garage. cant be doing with skimming heads etc as i know its been done before and had alot took off , so if i do repair it i might just bung a steel head gasket and hope for the best??
the joys of owning a 20 year old car eh?? especially when its your daily work transportation too....lol
-
Oh Dear... Sorry to hear that...
Never did or do understand why people "Track Race" a daily car that they need to get to and from work :lipsrsealed:
-
er.... because it was a 'track event', not a 'track race' which is just some where you can drive your car at fair speeds and get a feel as to what your car is capable of, something alot of people try on the roads and fail , because of traffic restictions , on coming traffic , pedistrians and poor road surfaces and not having a understanding as to how there car behaves and so on, i only took the golf for a 2 1/2 hour evening event which in reality i would have probably seen just over an hour in total, the head gasket would have gone at some point and im glad it went when and where it did rather than at 4 am on my own on some back roads!! i can use the wifes car or go and sort this out before monday so its not really an issue :) just frustrating that who ever did the job rather than re-order a new head gasket decided to continue to fit this one, its only done 2000 miles since it was done even though it was a long time ago!

-
fitted new head gasket and stretch bolts today and all is good!! , am going to take it on a run for 30 miles or so tomorrow just to double check, but the run into town and 30 mins running on the drive all seems good!! just need to flush the coolant system again to rid the snot from the old head gasket fail and then change the oil again in a few days then hopefully shes got a few more miles left in her!!
-
flushed coolant system again this morning then took for a 30 mile blast, seemd ok then started to misfire after about 15 miles, limped home and cylinder 2 and 3 ht lead has started arcing to the head.... strange!! new set of leads fitted and all is good again, am just going to run it steady for 500 miles and see whats what :)
as much of a twit as it has been ive acutally enjoyed fixing this..... lol
