Title: Car will not start

Woke up this morning and my car won't start. It tune over revs for about 1 second and then cuts out, it's a 16v gti any help would be appreciated thanks

if it is you can stick the key in the door and lock it then unlock it again and it should clear it, if you have central locking if not it could be a much bigger problem.

no that wont do anything, the door locks have no connection to the factory immobiliser whatsoever.  it may also be a crank sensor fault, so its worth a look at that, see if the wires look ok.

best thing is to get it on vag-com and see what faults come up.

one thing you could do is replace the key reader from round the ign lock, all mk3s after 96 have them. take yours out first though and check the plug as the really late ones have a different connector to the early ones.

Thanks guys that was spot on info got my mate to check it tonight and it was the receiver ordering tomorrow and fitting tomorrow too much appreciated
