Title: Volkswagen Computers and their Glitches
Post by: ajmoir36 on 24 April 2011, 21:45
What have you noticed? these are the things I have noticed...

1. Wing mirrors don't fold out. (say once a month/bi monthly)
2. Turn ignition on/all the way to start and get a ping. (its not cold, no open doors, no reason for it). (say once a quarter)
3. Foot well lights go from, my moderatly dim setting to full brightness once on gear change then dim back to what I have them set at. (only one occurance so far).

I have not had any of the above.

My car phone kit seems to periodically forget the 6 saved favourites, other than that it's all gravy

2. Mine does this quite regular, never found an issue with the car? No idea what it could be.

I've had no. 1 occasionally and the phone memory always deletes itself.

Also, my RNS510 is now incredibly slow when I'm loading music onto it from an SD card - I've got 13 Gb of music on now so I assume it's just the sheer volume on there that's slowing it down. Still annoying though!

Apart for the occasional door mirror glitch, all is very well with Wolfgang.

Nothing on mine apart from when using a flash memory stick to play audio. Nine times out of ten when I restart the car it plays from the track it was left on, tenth time it starts from the first track on the first folder

Ahh yeah usb hard drive always does that really annoying.  The SD card does it like every 4th or 5th car start.

I get 1 and 2 probably about the same amount of times as yourself.

Not sure why the car pings sometimes when I switch the ignition on.
Mine is set to "The rest of the World" to get rid of the KPH displaying I reckoned it might have something to do with that?!?

Oh yes, my favourite glitch of all. Mine always chooses the least opportune moment - like when I need to reverse into a space quickly with a herd of London cabs all trying to shove past me.

The problem is that it's never repeatable, I've looked for a pattern to replicate it for the garage but alas...

Thats pretty much the same with every car I've ever owned though!
It always amazes me that my current golf drops off full within about 10 miles - but is much more linear on its way down rather than staying full for the first 50+ miles!

Mines the opposite. First 50miles or so it doesn't move. Then the next 150 miles tales it steadily down to half a tank.

I did at one point think there may be lots of juice left in there as it gets into reserve.. But lots of spluttering and having to coast into the petrol station soon put that theory to rest :-(

Talking of which Microsoft and Volkswagen team up for in-car file storage (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/07/microsoft-and-volkswagen-team-up-for-in-car-file-storage/). Lets hope they have an inbuilt system restore?

I have managed 20miles with "0 miles left to go" on the computer

It still only took 52 litres so there must have been some left

Well before I filled up last time I thought I need some petrol for the lawn mower at the same time so I want back home for the petrol can. Just before I stopped it said 25 miles left, I got the can and started up and it said 5 miles left. How can it loose 20 miles sitting in the drive? The petrol station is 4 miles away so I set off I hadn't done 300 yards up the road and it shows 0 miles so I carried on. I tanked it at the fuel station and I could only get 54 litres in so I assume I had 1 litre left.
