-
what a div i am the engine was jacked up too high, got to stop doing mechanical work with stella!. one crushed finger later and the box is off
-
well when i said off, its fluffing stuck the driveshaft flange on the gearbox is behind the flywheel help please.
-
You need to spin it around a bit and eventually you will be able to lift it and clear the back of the flywheel.
-
mate ive tried liffting turning the whole lot can you be a bit more specific, thanks
i.e spin witch way
-
You want to spin the gearbox anticlockwise if you're looking from the passenger wheel arch.
I only did it a couple of weeks ago, but just have a play and you'll feel when its going to go.
-
cheers bud did you do it on your own? im trying to lower mine off with a trolly jack is that how u did it
-
When I did it a couple of weeks ago I had the engine/gearbox out of the car, so it was a lot easier. I have done it with the engine in the car before and it was a b!tch, but still comes off in the same way. I can't remember how I supported it, possibly just on my body whilst lay underneath? :undecided:
-
thanks for the help mate its kin takin the p im gonna scrap it at this rate. am really peed cos just scrapped my other one ahhhhhhh
-
isthere anyone near leicester that can lift this off for me please i can pay £40 and plenty off beer.
-
You need to get the front bit of the gearbox away from the engine then twist the box anticlockwise whilst pushing it back a bit and then the driveshaft flange will just about clear the engine
-
You did take off the alloy bracket that goes from the bell-housing to the gearbox mount didn't you?
I didn't realise it came off and spent a long frustrating time until I noticed it could be removed (three bolts I think, from the engine side of the bell housing).
I too was going to scrap the car until I finally got the gearbox out.
The other big hurdle is when you manage to line up the splines and get it back on. That too is a time to celebrate!
Good luck.
