Title: Rattle at approx 2500 revs?
Post by: Louise81 on 23 March 2005, 14:30
A few months ago something under the bonnet of my golf started to rattle at around 3000 revs so i took it to a bloke who supposedly knew what he was doing (have since found out that hes a sh** mechanic) who ripped the heat shield off saying it was that what was rattling cos it was loose, this stopped it for a month or so but now its come back this time it starts at just over 2000 revs, it definately sounds like its under the bonnet on the drivers side has anyone got any ideas what it could be? Its a 94 (M) 8v Golf GTI

Sounds a lot like the rattle that was causing Overseer some problems

see his thread on how he solved it

thanks i will try that, what do you think about him taking the heat shield off, i have seen mixed opinions on whether the heat shield is needed or not, personally i think that if it didnt need to be there volkswagen wouldnt waste money by fitting them on cars as standard

i *think* the only reason they are is to stop the possibiliy of it melting the main column to  steering rack boot. so if you stick some sticky back tinfoil on the boot you should be safe enough
