Title: What tool to remove gear box inspection hole plastic?
Post by: bmouthboyo on 23 April 2011, 11:06
Hi guys,

The plastic on my gearbox is battered and Id like to remove it to do both timing and replace. Tried shocking it our etc but no luck.

Any idea of the tool / size hex key?! I'd need?

Cheers

I've got a bolt with a 32mm head that fits in and I get the mole grips and do it that way

I did it by clamping some mole grips on vertically then hitting them with a hammer so it turned anti-clockwise.

Cut a piece of (3/4/5mm) sheet ali/steel/tufnol etc. into a rectangular shape that fits nicely/fully between two of the flats of the hex. Drill a hole in the middle and put a bolt through it with a nyloc nut on it, or a normal nut threadlocked.  Then just use a normal socket on the nut.

If you're feeling flash, you can cut the sheet into a full hexagon.

I tried unscrewing mine to no avail. Break it out!
