It was a black Mk2 Golf with something special under the bonnet and I'm guessing a little something in a canister in the boot as well.
I'm intrigued to know exactly what it has cos it was about the fastest thing I've seen !!
-
Yorkshire and lancs are two pretty big places maybe if you narrowed it down to the area you saw it someone off here might just be able to help unless they know who it is of course...
-
Well I first saw it on the M62 near Leeds heading West and then he went passed me just after Huddersfield. The last tim I saw it was around Rochdale area.
He'll know who it is as we had a bit of a play and if he is on the forum, then I'm sure his car is pretty special so he would be known.
Cheers.

I used to have a 16v GTi and it used to get beaten by 205 GTis regularly.
This thing was an animal. It matched me exactly from 80 to 130+. It was only when I changed up to 5th that I started to pull away/catch it.
Oh, I was in a 340bhp TVR Griffith and my mate in his 156bhp Lotus Elise was scared to death of it !!
Ii whistled so was either turbo or supercharged, plus I'm guessing maybe a shot of NOS as well as the flames out of the back were awesome. Sort of thing I could do with as a toy !!
-
maybe it had a 1.8T lump in it.. they're popular..
or was a g60? i dunno... was it LHD?
-
Don't want to disrespect the std Golfs, but it was more than a std supercharger or turbo.
I'm thinking it was a 1.8T chipped to at least 300bhp and maybe with NOS as well. My mate with the Elise used to have a 265bhp TT and he admits it was miles more powerful than that.
-
i just decided.. UFO.. = Unidentified Fast Object.. LOL..
so G** RSR couldnt have been G60 RSR then? ;)
guess club gti might be another avenue for your enquiries.
-
This one's bugging me now because i recognise the registration but can't remember where from..
as said above worth mentioning on clubgti, but i dont remember seeing any "i raced a tvr in my mk2" threads recently
for the kind of power you described it'd be something like a 16vG60, blown vr6 or a 20vT with an IHI or garrett 28rs kit on it...
-
In the reg, the ** was 41. I just wasn't sure how people reacted on the forum to publishing full registartion numbers.
So it was G41 RSR. If anybody has a problem with me posting the fullnumber, please let me know and I'll remove it.
-
lets see your TVR then.....

Yeah it was across the road from my mates - he's obviously not as posh as me as I have a field across from me !!
Oh, and its Soo !!
-
Sorry for getting the other halfs name wrong
Is that a Griffin ?

Looking on the trusted website,
https://www.rac.co.uk/myrac/?sessionid=4F9D922E0E70D3CB4D8ABBE8916C4715&dispatchTo=myrac
I can see that the Mk2 in question is 'registered' as a blue 16v, but don't know what's living under there now!
-
Its a Griffith 500.
It may well have been a dark blue Golf, but it sure as hell wasn't a 16v.
I'm still intrigued cos now I'm wondering how much it would cost to give a Golf that kind of power. Could do with something like that to add to the collection of silly cars !
-
spotted by demonn tweeks today mk2 16v racing a rs4 estate?
-
If it was the same one, it would have killed an RS4.
-
i dont know my mate has got a RS4 that can do 0-60 in around 4.5 secs
-
It wasn't so much the 0-60 but the 70 to 120 that was quick.
However I agree that you can chip RS4s up to 400bhp or more, and that would be quick.
-
I have been speaking to some of my friends in the tuning field and they said they know of a couple of twin engines mk2's going
around in the midlands, not to sure what colour though,. They said they are f*cking rapid, one of them does 0-60 in about 3 secs
they have been featured in some magazines, you could of come across one of these. apparently nothing can touch them on the
road
-
Oh and nice car my lord

I've got a 16v and in all the years that i raced 205 1.6/9 GTIs i never had one that beat me. The only thing that ever came close to giving me a run for my money were GT5terbos, but you only had to hang on to 80 before they started slowing up, by 100 kleptons per parsec they were history.
