Title: 8v Tuning Guide - Nothing would change :(
Post by: russ-vdub on 22 April 2011, 20:00
So went to get my car re tuned up and after following the guide anything we did nothing changed. We wound the idle screw all the way out, nothing happened, wound the MAF screw all the way out and the COs stayed at 0.2ish the whole time. One thing I did notice was the full throttle switch didn't do anything. Also now my car is making a strange whining noise in line with revs?

Any ideas chaps, really don't like running my car like this. I'm thinking a new throttle body, MAF and full throttle switch but I think I might be missing something.

One thing I did check was the vaccum pipes bit they all seemed ok.

Have you accidentally fitted a supercharger?

Could be a timing issue like it was for me with the emissions.

Alternator or timing belt too tight causing the whining noise?

Would the timing make the idle and MAF screws inoperative tho?

I would have a good look for leaks letting in excess air. Take off the black intake pipe from the Air flow sensor to the throttle body and have a good look over it for cracks/splits.  start ruling things out!

Ive just checked all the hoses and everything seems all sealed up with no leaks.

Just checked all marks and everything is lined up, except the tip-ex mark i put on the cam pulley is like 50degs out? I cannot imagine the belt slipping 20 teeth and the fact the car runs sweet means there must be something different going on.

Also the full throttle switch actually operating correctly, i was checking wrong.

to note the whining noise is coming from inside the inlet manifold. no idea

ok so changed the MAF for a spare on in the garage and now it seems to be making a difference, although i cant check the COs as at home. Its popping occasionally now, also when i wind the screw right out the revs drop relatively.

Nice. Always good when something actually gets sorted. Thread locked in place so it can never happen again
