As some of you guys may have recently read http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=177986.0 Ive been having a bit of a dilemma with my Weitec Ultra Gt suspension kit that i picked up for a bargain price. Since ownership ive had to purchase earlier top plates (Jom lowering ones) to fit the springs as they were originally made for the mk3 Cabrio & TDI. I fitted new Febi top mounts and bearings all round but still the car sits about 15mm higher at the front and im getting a clonking noise from the front when turning plus im finding that all four corners are thumping over most bumps in the road.
This in turn has got 7 month pregnant missus complaining (nothing new there) that's it's too bumpy and to be fair im finding it firmer that than what i was expecting soooo....im thinking that a change of springs is the way to go here.
I obviously want to keep my new Weitec GT shortened dampers but would like to hear some of your opinions on what decent springs i should match to them that are on the more compliant side of road comfort.
Im not after massive drops in ride height, just a reasonable drive with improved abilities over the utter tosh that was fitted at the VW factory.
Ive listed a few options above but any other options could be considered, thanks. :undecided:

They are all good springs and will be better than factory.
Find out what type has the softest rate and go for them. Got to keep the women happy.

After some heavy researching it does seem that the Eibachs are very good but several people on various forums are reporting that they can be a tad stiff where as the H&R's were softer, coupled with my uprated Weitec struts these could hopefully what Im looking for....possibly?
Anyone here using H&R springs?

Eibach is the best choice.
Simples

which ones would you recommend?
-
Got to be a weitec set up for your money.

Eibach Pro kit

We recently converted my wife's TT to Eibach Pro Kit with standard shocks.
We also fitted a super pro bush kit with castor increase.
The two modifications have transformed the car's handling. It now has pin sharp steering and just the right amount of compliancy in the suspension: very little body roll (but still some) and a feeling that the tyre/road interface is what's determining the grip, rather than the spring/body interface if you get what I mean.
I wonder if there's a similar front axle bushing kit for the Mk3?
Next thing we're doing is renewing the front ARB.
I forgot to mention my wife's audi runs on bog standard 16" rims with baloon tyres and there's still tons of grip.

I had eibach sportlines and did find them on the harder side (these were mated to boge/sachs shockers) but they did really help the handling
If I was to buy again I would go eibach (but maybe not the sportlines)
-
I dont know too much about the others tbh but I run Wietecs on mine and there great
-
I have some secondhand Eibach springs available.
-
What ones are they, how old are they and how much you looking for Len?
-
They are Eibachs.
No idea how old. I got them off an old forum member who isnt around anymore.
I believe they are 60mm drop but could be 40mm, again I dont know.
Money is not a problem getting them to you is!
Plus atm somebody else has jumped in!
-
I didn't think Eibach made 60mm drop springs for the mk3. Only 30mm Pro sport & 40mm Sportline.
So whats the deal, have these now been sold mate?
-
Nope not sold to anyone yet!
They must be 40mm drop then. Was about 4 years ago I got them so dont remember.

Best advice ever.
Getting such a bollocking at the moment.
-
Eibachs en route.
-
I would choose Wietecs now!

After a good chat with John at C&R yesterday he recommended the Eibachs as been a good set to go with my Weitec struts and said that it wasn't uncommon for people to mention the spring rates on the Weitec springs i had and that they made decent kits but weren't quite right for the mk3 Golf.

I like the suspension hard. Screw keeping the women happy, I like seeing bouncy titties.

i have just fitted an AP suspension kit. 40mm/30mm drop. £270 delivered. cant fault it AP are made in the same factory as KW i think.
not too hard. not to soft. didnt want coilovers as cant be ars#d with messing about with it, didnt want it too low and wanted a better ride quality than coilovers.
fitted on a vr6

YAY! finally got the suspension up to scratch this morning after installing a new set of Eibach Sportline 40mm springs. The ride difference is massive and it's now sitting a lot better with the front coming down another 15mm and the rear about 5mm. All clunks, bangs and crashes have vanished and it's so much more comfortable.
Infact id say there was hardly any comfort lost from the standard suspension set up but with the benefits of safer handling and nicer aesthetics.
The Eibach's do have a touch more body roll than the Weitec springs but im happy with that considering how firm the ride was. I reckon with a swap of the front wishbone bushes and anti roll bar bushes it'll all be fine and dandy.
Id definetly recommend Weitec struts coupled with Eibach sportline springs for those in the market for a new suspension set up.

Any chance you can post a pic of the ride height?
