Most things can be done, but how deep are your pockets?
-
just cant afford insurance on vr or gti just want a bit more power

just cant afford insurance on vr or gti just want a bit more power
Why not get a 1.6 or 1.8 instead then?
Or try going for something lighter then a mk3..
-
Id say if you cant afford the insurance for a mk3 vr6 etc, then you'll struggle to pay for what your asking to be done, easily be £1-1.5k to do that id imagine

that is a lil bit funny, it would probs be cheaper to drop a vr in and dont tell the insurance

Have you had insurance quotes for gti's? 8v prob wouldn't be to bad.
On standard internals you could only really run a low boost turbo anyway so it'd be safer and more reliable and prob cheaper to get a 8v or 16v gti and still have similar power gains.
If your goin to upgrade the internals you'll be looking at big money so might aswell go the whole hog and get either a vr6 or 1.8t

In answer to the OP's question - YES! VW have done just that! Well both actually!
But you couldnt afford it let alone the insurance!
-
are you all saying bolting a turbo on and stacking a few headgaskets won't give a safe 200bhp?
-
Of course you are right Boney but he still cant afford the insurance!
-
Can you? Yes. Have people done it? Yes. Has anyone here done it? I did a lot of research into it as I was hoping to do the conversion and drop it into an old skool Polo, but it in the end the cost of doing so would buy you and insure you on several GTIs
-
i wouldnt tel insurance

i wouldnt tel insurance
Tut tut!! You do realise that if u had an accident, and even if someone went into you, u wouldnt be insured. Not a very good idea AT ALL!! And certainly not a good idea advertising the fact on here!
-
i wouldnt tel insurance
Your a plonker then, insurance companies check forums etc.
Stupid idea
-
i wouldnt tel insurance
tool of the year award goes to.....
-
And at number 1 on "stupid things to say on a forum" is:
i wouldnt tel insurance
-
i wouldnt tel insurance
The cost of the conversion would still vastly outweigh insurance, nevermind the consequences of getting caught uninsured.
-
What would you say to the family of the little boy you ran over who want compensation money from your insurance...
-
so u tel insurance every thing like dif wheels induction kit, Exhaust
-
You are probably supposed to tell them everything down to a sticker.
Charging the 1.4 is pointless just stick with it or get a small block Polo to rag about for a few years then go for a gti.
-
i wouldnt tel insurance
Then your a dick.
so u tel insurance every thing like dif wheels induction kit, Exhaust
Everything from my Exhaust to my air filter is declared, so yeah! If you can't afford the extra insurance costs then don't do the mods...simple!
-
Whats the point in spending say £800 on insurance, then a remap exhaust etc etc, when you wont be covered , you have to tell insurance company, i mean christ stickers and induction kits wont make it go faster , but if your doing serious things like super charger, changing turbos, its a must!

Yep, I always declare every mod.
-
Stop digging a hole.
never spend money on a engine when you can buy a better performing model.
"I wouldn't tell insurance" mate that's just the same as drink driving, stop being stupid.
-
All mods declared here
-
Yer is a stupid idea mate, cost to do the conversion, then to get the chassis up to handle the extra power, would be over 2k probably.
Just get an 8v or something, up to you if you don@t tell the insurance but if you do have a crash or something then you'll be in debt big time! Or even killed ...
-
why are people still replying to this thread? if they can only afford to insure a 1.4 they cant afford to buy and then fit a turbo/charger. Its like saying what if my aunty had balls? it wouldnt happen and neither is this conversion

More to the point, why buy a boat unless you're a sailor?... kidding.

Im thinking of fitting a supercharger to my wheelbarrow, will it cost more than a new wheelbarrow would!?, hoping to save money by not telling the insurance!

I fitted two to my old Volvo V6, it did the Kessel run in 6c
