When I'm doing about 80 mph i hear a very faint vibration noise coming from the rear of the car. The only noise i liken it to is the noise you get if your wheels haven't been balanced properly but i don't get any actual vibration through the car of steering wheel it's just a vibration noise!
I've checked the wheels to see if any of the weights have fallen off the wheels but they are all in place.
Any ideas gents?

I checked the tyres and there's no unusual tyre wear. I tried to move the wheels to see if there is any movement (bearings) but all seems ok.
I noticed it this weekend not sure it was there before but it could have been!

They are very well known for going out of shape on the rear of the Mk5's which makes they noisy and causes vibration, not easy to spot when looking at them

I've not had the car from new, my guess is that they are the original fits and have done 17k miles. They are a little low but still legal.
I'm now convinced it's tyres and not anything worse.
Thanks guys,
Jim

I currently have Bridgestones on my mk5 Golf GT. The rears have started to wear unevenly on the inside edge and have become quite noisy - sounds like a wheel bearing problem. If you do a search on 'uneven tyre wear' on this forum, you'll see there are other threads where similar problems have been experienced.

4 Wheel laser alignment is what I needed on my Leon with un-even wear :)
