I'm nearly there with my shopping list for my conversion to the 20 t. Just the down pipe to get.
I'm using the standard 8v box but I want to use a stronger clutch.
can anyone advice on whats best to do. I have no idea on this.
Cheers guys

You would be better off going for an 02A gearbox which will allow you to fit a G60 flywheel and clutch. Not only will the diff in the 02A not work it's way out of the housing, the clutch will be able to hold on during the onslaught of torque delivered by the 20VT. Fit the 020 and you're going to be taking it out pretty quick afterwards.

As above 8v box is no good for 20vt they can with just a remap make well over 200bhp.. Mine made 221bhp which would have eat an 8v box.. Plus as dh said you can then run uprated clutch on g60 flywheel..

I think the common thing to do is 02a box with an ABF or g60 flywheel and a VR6 clutch kit. Thats what I'm running in mine, its a mk3 but still its the same engine :)

20vt on 020 box, if you do that make sure you get velcro mounts. box will last about a week if you actualy drive it, also 20vt will rip the center out of any 020 clutch friction disk

Cheers guys. food for thought.
I've had a look on the qpeng website. this is what they say.
"Our original development Mk2 has now covered 30k miles with an ’AGU‘ engine on its original 150k mile 8v 020 ‘rod shift’ gearbox without any problems. However, the clutch had to be uprated and we have found the Sachs ‘sporting’ unit works well. While it greatly simplifies the conversion and keeps costs down, it has to be said the gearing is rather short for the power available."
Why can't things ever be simple.

Qpeng also recommend running without knock sensors.

020 box is not up to the job, 02a is the better choice.
Also not keen on qpeng, factory managment is better

Whats a knock sensor?
And yeah I'm running standard ecu. Sending it to r-tech to get remapped.
Things seem to be getting more expensive!
-
Whats a knock sensor?
Detects if you have pre ignition and then saves further damage.

get a batch of duff fuel ( it dose happen ) if you have knock senors you don't notice much other than its not quite as fast as normal or uses a bit more. without knock sensors you can be waiting for an AA truck after haveing a blast then buying a new piston or two
