i was reading some specifications on a web site and it said that up to 1989 the 8v 3door weighs 920kg but from 89-91 it shot up to 1270kg ! this is unbelievable i hope this is not correct as i have a 90 8v gti and with that amount of lard i would have serious problems getting the power to weight ratio anything like a mk1 gti, the reason i thought there maybee some truth in itis because i also read in a magazine somewhere that after 89 the 0-60 was 9.2 secs whereas upto 89 it was about 8 secs. could somebody please clear this up and if its true tell me where all that extra weight is. cheers :'(

That will be those big bumpers from 90 onwards weighing it down  ;) nah, just joking. Some sort of confusion going on there I reckon. mk2 to mk3 is a big increase in weight.
