Title: Playing the insurance game - "fine tuning" the quote
Post by: Ben Lessani on 16 April 2011, 11:12
Its that time of year again, compared to last year, 0 convictions/accidents, 1 more years NCB and my premium goes up by £50 - great!

So, I've been shopping around and during the "fine-tuning" stage (you all do it!), I've found:

Profession Web designer - adds £100 to my premium
Profession Network Consultant - adds £0 to my premium

Tracker Any - adds £30 to my premium (what-the-hell!?)

Additional drivers 1 parent - removes £100 from my premium
Additional drivers Another 1 parent - removes another £100 from my premium

Mileage Travelling 6k annually - adds £50 to my premium
Mileage Travelling 5k annually - adds £0 to my premium

Car value Worth £6,000 - adds £50 to my premium
Car value Worth £5,999 - adds £0 to my premium

Comparison site Confused were cheaper for the same quote by £30
Comparison site Compare the Market were more expensive for the same quote by £30
Comparison site Go Compare were more expensive for the same quote by £30

20 quotes later and I'll be paying a rather annoyingly high £688 for my Mini Cooper S, 5 years NCB and 8 years clean licence!

Oh the fun of it!

Wouldn't it be nice if it was all set out simply so we could play they system.... That would be nice..

Try Money Super Market, I find their quotes are always cheaper than the other sites, this year the cheapest GoCompare/Confused etc were all over £1k, MSM came in at £400 cheaper  than them  my insurance company  at the time wouldn't haggle with me on price, even when I said I'll cancel my policy the guy chuckled and said OK
