Title: why did i decide to go with Kwik Fit??!!
Post by: savvasa on 15 April 2011, 15:22
Well I'm a mug... rather then going with my local tyre guy like i have done on all my other cars, i decided to take my GTI to Kwik Fit to get a set of Conti Sport 3's put on the front. All was well and good at the shop, the guy was nice and pie, and even price matched my local chap.

However, I just got the car home, and guess what!? SHOCK HORROR they have f**ked up, 2 nice big scratches from the tyre removal machine on my front left alloy  its clearly from the machine, but they are arguing that I should have noticed it before i left the shop, but i didnt because they left SO much lube on there!

What do you guys think? Have I got a leg to stand on? Should I have noticed? Should I be pushing for a new wheel or a refurb?

Cheers in advance,

Sav

Have you got a close up picture of your wheels prior to the damage?  That may help your case  :undecided:

Though as you say, looking at those pics you can quite clearly see how the mark follows the tyre!!

Hey Rhys, im just going through my pics now, but if i do have one it will be from earlier this year, so not really relevant?

Im just hoping that they accept that the marks are way to clean for them to have come from a curb.

May not be but could be worth a go  :undecided:  Nothing more frustrating than some monkey ruining your pride and joy

I'd stand your ground and kick up a stink in front of all the customers

17's or 18's?

18's i'd push for a new wheel as re-furbing them can be difficult due to the polished finish

Those must be 17" alloys unless theyve been referbed already. Those are not Diamond cut finish, which the 18's are from new.

Good luck with kicking up a stink, thats precisely why i dont use that company...

Tyres say 225/40/18 ;)

Then your alloys have already been refurbed

I've never had the alloys refurbed, not to say the previous owner didnt, but its unlikely to have all 4 done? right?

18 inch Monza's have a diamond cut finish, and are different to the 17 inch ones. Yours do look like the finish on the 17 inch alloys, so i suspect all have been re-coated, as it is difficult to refirb the 18 inch ones, to get the same finish.

sorry to hear this. kwik crap should have an account with a local refurb co, as I guess this happens all the time, theres no way they will pay for a new wheel and as others have pointed out a new one will come diamond cut and not painted and therefore not match the rest of the wheels anyway!

kick up a stink, if you aren't used to complaining just remember to try not to raise your voice and dont swear (I know its hard not to), just be really insistant.

I would say, if the mark was there before I brought the car in, why would I be stupid enough to waste my time and energy complaining?  If it was there beforehand, any reputatable company would of pointed it out and noted it on the paperwork to prevent comebacks!

good luck.

This happened to me with my pre  mk 5 gti, but I was wise to them, my monza 2's were unmarked and I took the manager round my wheels before they did the work and he certified they were perfect, when I went back boom a massive big scratch, they hadn't a leg to stand on, they had to cough up £465 for a new alloy although initially they did say only halfs but I went sod off

Cheers for the advice guys. They have accepted liability, and have told me to go and get the wheel refurbished, and they will pay for it.

Now I just need to find a respected wheel guy local to me! Follow up post on its way.

Are the pics date/time stamped.  If not get some done.

Put in writing your complaint and send it, together with copies of the pictures, invoice number, to the manager at the garage.

Say that you want: (add your requirement)

A) Them to arrage and pay for refurbishment
B) Repay the cost of refurbishment.

Give them 14 days to reply outherwise you will begin legal action.

Send copy of letter to:

Kwik-Fit (GB) Limited
216 East Main Street
Broxburn
West Lothian
EH52 5AS

You can also email the Chief Executive - Mr Ian Fraser.

ian.fraser@kwik-fit.com

And never go there again.

Jonathan.

Kwik Fit swapped my summer tyres to winters and back again.
They treated my Monzas with the utmost respect.

I always do a quick walk around with the main guy before they touch the wheels, simply agree they are scuff free before they start.

No arguments.

Brilliant service.

They clearly messed up this time, they are now sorting it out.
