Menzerna and Sonus also make high quality polish and pads.
I like to use Menzerna on Chemical Guys Hex pads. The CG pads are softer and more flexible than other Sonus and Menzerna pads I've used, allowing them to mould to body contours.
Always research the product before you buy. Sometimes an item may be advertised as a polish but may contail fillers that just mask swirls rather than remove them.
You can usuallycategorise a polish into one of 3 categories : heavy cut, intermediate cut or final finish
Use appropriately depending on how severe your swirling is. For scratches you will need to start with a heavy cut than go over with the intermediate and then final finish for a super high quality shine. This would provide a full correction. (excluding very deep scratches through clear coat and paint, they will need special attention)
If you are a beginner I would recommend practicing your technique with an intermediate polish or less. If you dive straight in with a heavy cut you may cause some damage with poor technique.
Check out 'clean your car' for all the products you need and cleaning/polishing guides. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk)
