Hi all
tomorrow, Tuesday 23rd,i am travelling 230 miles to look at j reg golf Mk2 16v in oak green, 125000 miles, fsh, and in very
clean original condition, owner was asking ?1490. i spoke to him last week and he informed me that it had one month left on mot
so i asked him to mot it before i came up, which he did today, the car failed on steering rack gaiter, rear shock absorber, number
plate light and blocked windscreen jet. He was a bit gutted but i said that i was still interested if he would reduce the price to
reflect the work needed. After a bit of negotiation we agreed on ?1250. What i would like to know is does this sound a fair price
or am i, as the title states, mental to go ahead and travel all that way tomorrow. I must add the seller has been completely honest
with me and seems a genuine guy. thx in advance for your posts

sware its the 22nd tomorrow :undecided:
Oak green dubs go for alot more than that so i think thas alrite
-
sounds good to me, 5 or 3 door?
-
You agreed a price without even seeing the car ? Yes, you are mental
-
Nutter
Hope it all goes well!
-
Its a 5 door. I wrote it wrong we have not agreed a price i just asked him what he would realistically take given the fact it needs some
work doing to it. I know its not the orthodox way of buying a car but i needed to know i wouldn't be wasting my time travelling all that
way. I have been after a original example for so long that i just couldn't past up on the opportunity. what do you think

sware its the 22nd tomorrow :undecided:
i swear it's the 22nd too........................ ? ? ? ? ? ?...................and i swear it's spelt swear not sware!
not sure i'd travel that far for a car, but go for it. i'd still try to beat him down a bit more when you get there, wave notes under his nose and see what happens. oh and i'd rather a three door any day, but thats just my opinion.
-
I travelled about 150 miles round trip for mine and didn't regret it one bit.
Price sounds ok ish, so long as you have a look at the MOT failure sheet.
Have acess to cash and barter
-
I know i know i would rather a 3 dr too but i have a 2 year old son and it wouldn't be very practical, also i have just sold my Volvo t5
which my wife is still seething about  and buying a 3 dr would probably push her over the edge . The guy said he has
got the mot sheet for me to go over and I'm sure with the smell of fresh notes he may take ?1150

I agree that the 3 door looks better but I'm like you, gotta have a 5 door for the kids.
Think of the state the front seats would be in with the ankle biters standing on them!
Oak Poo Green though !

offer him a grand for it. also, pickup on any wee paint scratches and small dints here n there
tell him you are looking to get the car back to mint condition etc. make him feel as if his car is going to a well loved home and somebody who is going to look after it etc. it always works wonders!!
-
Thanks for the advice Gambit, of to catch my train to see the car now. Will keep you guys posted and send in some pics if i get it

I am now the proud owner of a '92 oak green 8v mk2 golf gti, 130,000 miles, fvwsh, very very clean and original ( apart from the
odd stone chip and light scratch). good original interior, miint bbs alloys. Bad points are that it needs a rear shock, steering rack gaitor
and its due a cam belt. The guy was asking 1500, which i thought wasn't a bad price, but with the faults i found i managed to get
him down to 1200. So after all that worrying the 500 mile round trip was well worth it, the 250 mile drive home was
fantastic . So what do you think is it a good price?
-
aye sounds like a good price - you'll have to get the pics up now for everybody to see!!
-
weather is shiite down here in plymouth so i will sort some pics out and post them over the weekend . Thinking about it i
actually spent more money on the car if you include the travelling costs, about 100,. But i'm still over the bloody moon

Welcome to the Oak Green Clan......and btw 5 doors are better!
