What would you expect to get for my car on a trade in against a 20k Scirocco ?my car has 1 previous owner, 118k, full service history, just had new cam belt, brand new wheels & tyres, Pioneer system with 1000watt twin sub, stage one remapped by rtech, koni sports suspension, depo headlights with HID's although do still have the standard headlights. So has only had basic mods which are all easily reversible.
Just curious what everyone thought as waiting to hear back from a company ?
-
Mine was on 115K
2 previous owners
FVWSH
Everything replaced from suspension, turbo, seats etc
3 month old tyres
Audi garage last year offered me £1500 as a trade in against an A3 Sline going for approx £15K
Webuyanycar offered me £1750
Sell privately mate as garages don't want cars more than 3 years old - they put them straight to auction
I sold for £3500 and made another £1000 in wheels and steering wheel, trim etc etc

The problem being is it takes time to sell it privately can't really afford the car without the money from the golf.
I know i could get £3.5-4000 private though as been asked quite a fews times recently if i want to sell it, maybe worth me contacting the people see if they are still interested.
I didn't keep my standard wheels so selling the wheels seperately is not an option.
The garage haven't even come back to me to say any price yet lol
-
I sold mine with a week of it being on Ad Trader, Gumtree etc etc  Unless someone has cash in hand forums take an age to shift a car. Many people commented on how they'd like to own my car yet no one wanted it come selling time
Best tip is don't advertise your modifications or put the car back to standard as much as possible :afro:
I did swaps with members, mostly Adam to be fair   to put the car back to as standard as possible
Depends if you'd rather the extra cash or less hassle

My car isn't too far from standard really only changes are suspension, wheels, lights & stereo. I do actually still have the standard stereo somewhere i think & the headlights.
I would be gutted if i sold mine then the car i want has gone lol if i had the money i would just buy the new one then worry about selling the old one later ! Ahh well it will either sort itself out or the car i want will get sold & i start my search again.
-
P/X with any dealer and you will be lucky to see 50% of what you think the car is worth privately. Unless you view the car as a set monthly outgoing which you can right off otherwise sell it privately as a sensible price. Dealers don't give two monkeys if it's got a fancy stereo or wheels.
Basically factor in the total cost to you for the deal, if it's within your monthly budget (I assume you'll be having finance) and you're happy with it then go for as the sale cost of the Golf then becomes irrelevant. So if you think that extra £1500 you might by selling it privately makes a difference to your monthly outgoings that will answer your question.
I've been there with new or nearly new cars in the past and I just can't justify the cost of depreciation these days especially when you can get perfectly capable cars that are 10 years old for a 10th of the price. Was a different story 10-12 years ago mind as you wouldn't really want to be buying a 10 year old rusty Montego.
I've got much better things to spend £300-400 on per month!

Suspension and wheels are the two most noticeable things on the car though
I sold mine and then started looking for a car. Don't get too focused on finding your exact perfect spec. The Audi I ended up with wasn't my first colour choice (it was 2nd or 3rd) but the right one came along at the right price with the factory fitted extras I wanted
-
Put it back to standard and sell it.
Autotrader is the best bet for selling
-
I can't sell it first i need a vehicle to get to work as it's a 38 mile round trip lol I wouldn't spend 20 k on a car unless it was the exact spec i want ! if i got to pay for it for 5 years i want to be bloody happy with it & have no regrets like i did when i bought my golf originally!
Nige i bought this car when it was 2 years old although was 12k not 20 like the Scirocco! I don't mind spending the money & would be a loan, finance is a joke ! I could keep the golf but just feel too old for it now
I just heard back from them £2000 was the offer.
-
£2000! not bad for starters, wasn't far off with 50% of what you think it's worth. I'd take it for zero hassle, swap a few of the mod's out if you have time but in the grand scheme of things what would they actually net you? Maybe try and haggle a few dealer extra's on the Rocco too.
Assuming you sold it for £1500 more, would that bit extra make much difference to a £20k loan over 5 years? So £18.5k v £20k that's about £25 p/m difference over 5 yr.
-
Trouble is mate altho HIDs, remaps etc etc, in our eyes is great, to them all they see is a mk4 golf. sell it private best bet, looks a smart car and youd get a hell of alot more from private sale .............. and top choice on the rocco love em!
-
Do it this way then,
Keep the Golf.
Bosh £3.5k payment/deposit for the Rocoo on a credit card, they're always offering 6-9month interest free if you balance transfer. Stick the rest on a loan, that gets you the Rocco. Not having a car to p/x may give you a better hand to play with for some cash back or a better deal from the stealers.
That gives you 6-9 months breathing space to sell the Golf, which shouldn't be a problem, the sale price from that pays off the credit card. It's not a lack of cash problem but more of a cash flow problem.
The monthly payment difference from not having a £20k loan but a £16.5k loan you can put to one side and help pay off the card bill later down the line, if you get your preferred sale price for the Golf then you got a little chunk of cash spare to go on holiday.
-
It's not from a vw dealer but it already has a lot of extras, that may be a plan about using a credit card for the deposit i owe bugger all on the 2 cards i have.
Hmmm i think i will have to sit down tonight and go over the figures.. problem is holiday is already booked we are off to Thailand for a month at Xmas so hence why i am not jumping in for the car now as i was planning on waiting till we got back..but i have fallen in love with this car !

Just found out it's the 140ps not the 170ps kind of puts me off a little

What reg Rocco's you looking at?? The later 140's come with the DPF pipe AFAIK so remapping them gets a little more complicated :undecided:
Even on the 170's very few remapping companies offer a complete solution to the ballache that is the DPF
You might find it a bit of a shock coming down from 190ish to the 170 although I've found that you can use the power more of the time simply because the chassis doesn't try and throw you off the road! So in actual fact the Audi is just as quick across country as the Golf was
Would like a little more poke though :lipsrsealed:

it's 2009 .. damn i thought they could be remapped just the same ..i saw one 170 advertised that is was remapped by vw racing to 210 bhp

I'm not 100% sure on the 140's - certainly pre-2008 they were DPF free. All 170's were fitted with DPF's. Mine's an 08 car with a DPF
Interesting as VWR only quote 195bhp......
http://www.volkswagenracing.co.uk/Scirocco%20Pages/Scirocco%20PowerUpgrades.html
That does include a full exhaust system mind so it could easily see over 200bhp :undecided:

£1500 for a remap !!
sorry re-read £600 !

Lol   £1500 includes the exhaust and some kind of warranty cover
Still fricking pricey mind! Plus I'd want reassurances that with a just a remap alone you won't encounter any DPF issues

Man up and get a 170  Just make sure you thrash it every now and again to keep the DPF clean :afro:
Though an 09 MAY have the later CR engine fitted rather than the PD unit I got :undecided:
Not sure what long term reliability is on them mind. Ask the Mk6 lot

Is that a 140bhp then? the 140's are surprisingly quick, especially lower down.
Coming from the 130 for some reason I still preferred the drive of the 170 :undecided: possibly because the power band had shifted more towards the top end in my 130
Have you driven a 140?

Yea thats the 140 shame they didn't do it to a 170 , they do have some nice golfs for sale to lol No not driven a 140 ..the petrol seems so tempting but i can't get one that look like that..although have seen a 300bhp one for sale !!!
-

-
I like power but in this day & age how often to you actually get to use it. I mainly use my car for work and is rare to get over 50 on the way lol good mpg & cheap road tax win. Will know if I am getting it by Wednesday :/

Thanks I will take a look if it all goes through, I will be gutted if I don't get it but I will also not owe 20k lmao so not all bad
-
whats the full spec on the Rocco, cos compared to a standard one its 110% better IMHO
-
It has a full body kit ( Front spoiler, sideskirt set, Rear diffuser, Fully colour coded with matt Anthracite detailing),uprated & lowered suspension,19" AV-RS alloys, Touch screen Audio/Media unit, leather sport steering wheel, Rear parking sensors, Climate control, Sport seats,
I don't think it has leather seats which is a shame but can't have everything, it will be a long couple days waiting to see if it's going to happen, i will be over the moon if i get it but not 100% confident as banks are still a little funny about lending unsecured large sums of money!

Although not through a bank I got my finance agreed within 30 minutes of completing the application form
Awesome sounding spec
-
aye, fair play on the spec, sounds the mutts  , now, house deposit or new car ( and divorce )
-
Finance is a lot easier as they know they can reposses the car if you don't pay. Rates are usually a little high to compared to loans & with a loan you can pay back chunks anytime you want.
Yes I choose car ! House can wait lol

I pissed off my finance company as i paid it off the next month so they made fcuk all money out of me
Did the same 5 years ago when I bought the Golf

I like the bimmers they got for sale
-
Fairplay that's the way to do, I have used finance companies before but prefer to use the bank as I get very low rates. Who knows if they will ok it if I don't post for a few weeks then the car has either gone or I didn't get the money at the rate I want lol
Yes Steve I was tempted by them.
