Title: Banging sound when I let go of the accelerator
Post by: jeremy20jeremy on 14 April 2011, 09:12
Hi All

I bought an edition 30 as a result of some recommendations on here about 3 years ago and really enjoy it. However, yesterday a knocking sound materialized from the under the bonnet slightly to the left hand side. It's got louder today and seems to disappear when I press the accelerator?

Any ideas, info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Jem

Cv Joint?

Does it do it whilst driving , or sat stationary?

Trying to establish if its a drivetrain issue, or engine issue

Hi There

It only happens when driving and I'm not accelerating or braking ie coasting. When I do both the noise disappears, really weird.

Thanks

Possibly a loose front ARB mounting. Under accelleration/decelleration it would knock once and then be pinned. Under coasting it would knock in an irregular, but loud fashion.

Cheers Hurdy

True to form it was, suggested it at a VW garage in Herzogenaurach (I live in Germany) and they identified it straight away without clocking up "research time"

Much appreciated
