Title: Basic MK2 setup !!
Post by: wurth on 13 April 2011, 22:14
Hello

In need of some new soundz in my mk2. I have a late mk2, so have six speakers (dash, door and rear)

Ive put some alpine 10cm ones in my 85 gti and they sound the good.

So am going to go with them for the dash, also seen alpine 13cm ones at halfrauds for £40, so fixed with them.

Now the rear Huh

Can I fit 6x9 in there ?? Im not talking about direct replacment, as the standard are 6x4, but if im make some sort of braket will they fit ??

And I have a pants sony cd headunit atm 45wx4 Huh

Looking to upgrade my headunit to handle the above. budget isnt very high £100 for headunit ??. IM NOT looking to put a amp/sub in.

And sugestions??

Wrong section chap.

6x9's are gay, you need good front comps in dash/doors, a tidy sub+amp in the boot with preferably an Alpine headunit to run it all.

I've got a set of Alpine 6 x 4 in the rear and a 10" sub with an Alpine amp...

The speakers I got Halfrauds to order, same price as the fronts, my lad has the same set up, less the amp and he found the alpines for sale on the net for about £30.00 I think...

Sounds are pretty good and keep the car OEM in looks...

Take all that sh!t out (it'll only slow you down) and then go for -40 springs and -2degrees of negative camber, with 280mm front brakes.

Now that's a basic MK2 set up.

ok great. So your lad has less the sub and amp ? Not looking to rattle car windows in tesco car park, so this sounds ideal.

Yeah he has, and its a pretty good all round sound... Not much bass though.. I know he would like an Amp and bass box when he has the money...

The Alpine speaker IMO give the bet mid range sound for the size of speakers you can fit into the OEM mounts...

As said I think 6 x 9 in the parcel shelf are Gay and totally spoil the car... Just buy better speakers...

Yes boss, I already have this setup, And the brakes. (although -60 coilovers and much more camber than that)

But, its not a race car, just a fast road/ nurburgring car ;)

would never dream of carving my parcel shelf up, just thought they may fit in the OEM side pannel bit (where the standard 6x4's are)

I picked up a pair of Pioneer 20cm round speakers from cash converters for 29 quid, Made a shelf an just wired them up 2 my sony head unit. No amp fitted but it sounds really good,
