So i lent my wife my gti earlier today as her mk3 was too low to take passengers and get where she needed to go.Big mistake!!,I get a call about 2 hours after saying"The oil lights flashing and its making a buzzing noise" and then she followed it up by saying"Im alright to carry on aren't i??" And she was a bit suprised when i replied"Turn the f**king car off until i get there".
Anyway from the vdo read out and the helpful flashing light/buzzer i have minimal oil pressure.Luckily she stopped as soon as it came on,If i rev it slightly the vdo gauge shows pressure but after about 2k it alarms.
It has had all new sensors and i have just refitted the old ones so i know that the system is ok.
Could this be a symptom of a clogged pick-up pipe or something more serious?
sorry for the long windedness

you need at least 1.8bar of pressure at 2k rpm, if you dont have that then yeah you have a pressure issue. step 1 is to drop the sump and have a look

That was the plan but now im off to buy a funky mk3 diesel with lots of rare goodies on.
I shall have a gander in the morning,If it is the pickup thing what do i clean it with???
-
anythign you liek really, its held on to the pump with 2 bolts so dead easy to whip it off for proper cleaning. parafin, white spirit, petrol, whatever you have to hand!

An airline is good for blowing stuff out as well.

Quick question (didn't deserve a new thread)
But I'm planning on giving the pick up a quick clean next oil change.
How do I remove the pick up?
And is there anything else I should check while I have the sump off?
-
sorry to bring up a old post but didn't see the point in making a new one... so today i got the flashing red oil light with the buzzing noise, after a while it went off then came back on for a quick second then off again by the time i got home.
could this be the Pickup or a faulty clock? as the owner before has put GTi clocks in.
while on the subject is there a how to on cleaning the pickup cheers.

I would drop the sump and check the pick up pipe tbh.
